Book Description

For years now, resident surgeon Erin Slater has been focused on her career, with no time left for a relationship. Sexual frustration has her on edge, and it seems like a wet dream come true when her best friend Jack and his roommate Simon offer to help her scratch that itch. Their afternoon of debauchery leaves her yearning for more—not just sex, but to explore her submissive and masochistic side with Simon, who has been living the lifestyle for quite some time himself. Soon, she is starting to embrace her new self, leaving her secure enough to enjoy watching the two men in her life deconstruct a few boundaries between them as well as Jack starts to get curious about embracing his bisexual fantasies.
But when emotions factor into the equation, things get complicated, forcing Erin to make a decision which man she will choose – but why can’t she have both? After all, a love triangle might be just what the doctor prescribes.

Dive into this vivid tale of friendship, lust, love, bondage, dominance, and submission. Intended for mature audiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging and Mesmerizing! August 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Long time friends turned lovers: this is the heart of Caught in the Middle. While it sounds simple, Barker’s delivery is anything but. Instead, it's an erotic tale packed with emotional surprises and plenty of plot. Oh, and there’s the bonus twist of there being not two, but three parties involved in said transitioning relationship.

When Erin lets down her walls after a particularly trying week of residency, she finds herself caught between two very different, but lovable, men: Simon and Jack. It doesn’t take Erin long to realize that both can offer her something she wants, and needs.

With Jack she has a past; years of friendship has resulted in them learning each other to the core and building a trust and respect that can only be gained with time. But Simon is her present as he begins introducing her to the finer points of BDSM, letting her into his secret world. She thrives on the therapeutic outlet it becomes in dealing with her struggles as a young, single woman, pulling long hours~and paying off enormous debts~in pursuit of her medical career.

What starts as a frolic of physical release quickly escalates, blurring lines. Erin is unprepared when her need and respect of the two men shifts, and romantic feelings begin creeping in . . . for both Simon and Jack.

With so many nuances and lifestyle adjustments, bumps in the road are expected, but I was floored with how smooth, how seamlessly the story shifted between scenes and moved forward. Well-written and well-edited, always a plus in my book, Caught in the Middle had me laughing, getting angry, longing for my own session, and even crying.

This story has it all. It portrays the BDSM lifestyle with class and grace, yet has no shortage of gratuitous sex for the erotica lover.

I was captivated from beginning to end. She gives you just what the Doctor ordered, or will be at least prescribing!! I loved how I could picture exactly what Kira was trying to portray in her writing. Page by page and scene by scene, I couldn't stop wondering where these three were heading in the end. Just when you think you know how something will end up, the ball gets dropped and everything is placed in jeopardy. Kira managed to keep the angst to a minimum, love scenes hot, hot, hot and such a balanced, harmonized flow, it was hard to stop and left me wanting more of these three in the future. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy love story with a capital L! Loved it big time! August 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I simply loved, loved the story big time! I'm a sap for stories in the genre from best friends to lovers and Kira Barker has done justice to it, big time! All her characters are both lovable and frustrating, intelligent but also dumm as hell because they don't seem to understand what they have just in front of them. There's the workaholic Erin whose home is more the hospital than the bedroom and whose mind and body need some unwinding in the form of kinky sex. Then there's the intellectual writer Simon who has been into BDSM for quite a while now and who is more than happy to help Erin in her sexual frustration. Then there's the witty, lovable, best friend Jack who teases both of them with his perfect body and tattoos and who has always been Erin's rock. These favourite three of mine have a couple of hot, hot, hot afternoons. Then Erin starts a sub relationship to Simon until everything goes to hell. Relationships are complicated, that's a fact, and when true feelings and non-communicative characters are involved, you get a soup that is about to boil over, until it does.
Yes, this is a love story with a capital L. Is it a common one? Not so sure. Is it a beautiful one? Hell yes! You will get teary-eyed or you will cry, but those tears are just the beginning in the story -a start for something good, sexy and beautiful.
Kira Barker knows her sex scenes and the world of BDSM. She also knows that love and sex are raw, so why should you sugar-coat speaking about them? She writes very good dialogue and situational comedy that give you some good laughs. She writes strong female characters and has her way with words. Sentences such as "I'm not just in love with you." or "Yet." are so meaningful in this story that why don't you buy it to yourself to find out what they mean in it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic debut! August 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Just reading Caught In The Middle‘s synopsis alone immediately grabbed my attention. I knew right there and then that I needed to read this book. I mean, come on… who could resist the drama that could potentially happen between three long time friends who decides to risk an impeccable friendship for a quick roll in the hay? Not me!

What captivated me even from the very beginning was the dynamics between Erin, Jack and Simon together and eventually as paired off couples. Oh yeah! There wasn’t a single moment where I didn’t feel somewhat anxious throughout the story.

“…looking into his eyes, seeing unspoken emotions roiling in them, I saw that I wasn’t the only one acutely aware of how things were shifting between us…”

As expected, the sexy scenes were all around fascinating but what made this one even that more compelling was when emotions started becoming part of the equation. The instant that these feelings were finally disclosed was when the tension became quite overwhelming. That is – overwhelming in a good way! Let me tell you, there was a never single boring moment in this book.

I found it also interesting how a friendship between three people transitioned from something platonic to something (very) sexual and eventually into something romantic. All of that sounds complicated right? Yet Kira Barker did a fascinating job chronicling such a transformation.

Caught In The Middle for me was a fantastic debut. I definitely am looking forward to seeing how this dynamic threesome’s relationship further develop in the upcoming books.

More About the Author

Kira Barker has always enjoyed telling stories. It has kept her sane through high school and college, and has become a true passion since. A geek gamer girl herself, she feels at home reading sci-fi and fantasy as much as writing romance. She likes her plots gritty, her smut realistic, and doesn't mind getting her hands dirty when it comes to research. When she's not writing, she loves annoying her cats or cruising country roads on her motorcycle.
