More About the Author

Kira Barker has always enjoyed telling stories. It has kept her sane through high school and college, and has become a true passion since. A geek gamer girl herself, she feels at home reading sci-fi and fantasy as much as writing romance. She likes her plots gritty, her smut realistic, and doesn't mind getting her hands dirty when it comes to research. When she's not writing, she loves annoying her cats or cruising country roads on her motorcycle.

Long time friends turned lovers: this is the heart of Caught in the Middle. While it sounds simple, Barker’s delivery is anything but. Instead, it's an erotic tale packed with emotional surprises and plenty of plot. Oh, and there’s the bonus twist of there being not two, but three parties involved in said transitioning relationship.

When Erin lets down her walls after a particularly trying week of residency, she finds herself caught between two very different, but lovable, men: Simon and Jack. It doesn’t take Erin long to realize that both can offer her something she wants, and needs.

With Jack she has a past; years of friendship has resulted in them learning each other to the core and building a trust and respect that can only be gained with time. But Simon is her present as he begins introducing her to the finer points of BDSM, letting her into his secret world. She thrives on the therapeutic outlet it becomes in dealing with her struggles as a young, single woman, pulling long hours~and paying off enormous debts~in pursuit of her medical career.

What starts as a frolic of physical release quickly escalates, blurring lines. Erin is unprepared when her need and respect of the two men shifts, and romantic feelings begin creeping in . . . for both Simon and Jack.

With so many nuances and lifestyle adjustments, bumps in the road are expected, but I was floored with how smooth, how seamlessly the story shifted between scenes and moved forward. Well-written and well-edited, always a plus in my book, Caught in the Middle had me laughing, getting angry, longing for my own session, and even crying.

This story has it all. It portrays the BDSM lifestyle with class and grace, yet has no shortage of gratuitous sex for the erotica lover.

I was captivated from beginning to end. She gives you just what the Doctor ordered, or will be at least prescribing!! I loved how I could picture exactly what Kira was trying to portray in her writing. Page by page and scene by scene, I couldn't stop wondering where these three were heading in the end. Just when you think you know how something will end up, the ball gets dropped and everything is placed in jeopardy. Kira managed to keep the angst to a minimum, love scenes hot, hot, hot and such a balanced, harmonized flow, it was hard to stop and left me wanting more of these three in the future. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!!!!

There was a lot of good and a lot of bad in this one for me. You have 3 friends that have known each other for so long - which is great. Jack and Erin since they were children. Simon is added to the mix several years later. Jack and Erin's relationship is basically a fun and carefree friendship. They tease and pick on each other - almost as siblings would. I love this! Erin is doing her residency in a hospital, Jack works in IT and Simon is a writer. Their professions are as diverse as their personalities, and they all compliment each other well. There is a 4th friend (Kara), but she's not around for much of the book. Erin's attending a party at Jack and Simon's house, when Simon mentions that Jack is chasing away the men she normally talks to because he wants to have sex with her - OH, and so does Simon. She hangs around until the party is over to talk about the possibility of a menage. Simon reveals that he is a Dom and is into the S&M portion of BDSM and that she would need to be sober for the menage event. The next day, the 3 of them have a strange menage with a little bondage and impact play. The scene really did nothing for me. There was some passion, but I was never relly pulled in. Afterwards, Simon offers to be her Dom of sorts and Erin agrees. He says that he's not that into protocal, but his actions don't reflect his words. He claims to be more into S&M, but there is an aweful lot of rope play involved suggesting that bondage really is important to him as well. Their S&M scenes are quite intense, but a bit lackluster for the reader if they're read a lot of other BDSM. There is another menage scene that occurs at the lake. This is the best sex scene in the book for me. You can actually feel the friendships, love, attraction, desire, etc.Read more ›

This was a brilliant plot from the author that took two people who had been best friends for years, Jack and Erin and added Jack’s roommate Simon to the mix. Between the three you have Erin who is finishing her surgical residency at the hospital she dreams of getting a job at, Jack who is the playboy IT guy, while exciting in bed, still rather vanilla in his techniques and Simon, the reserve author who oozes class and refinement, until he becomes the Dom in the “dungeon” which in this story is the attic.
There is a fine balance to keeping all three as primary characters and not letting any of them get lost in the plot and the author did a fabulous job at that, along with the character development. While there are similarities between all three, which is what causes the ménage scenes to occur and be so hot, we are faced more with the complexities of differences that each have.
While Erin and Simon are getting closer in a relationship, Jack is feeling left out and that he has lost his two best friends. Erin, while loving her time with Simon comes face to face with the reality that while she loves Jack like a brother, maybe even more, has she only used him all these years for comfort? Simon knows what he needs in the attic but he is carrying so many dark demons from his earlier BDSM days, can he really lay it all down and risk losing some control to keep Jack and Erin in his life?
There is a point just after the half way point in the book that the tension becomes high. Erin’s dreams at work could be crushed, her relationship with Jack is on very thin ice, and her time with Simon is limited by her choice as she runs from what she is feeling. Lies and manipulation come to light and she is forced to deal with the anniversary of events that she would rather forget.
