2.0 out of 5 stars Two Great Albums on One CD [2 & 1/2 stars for re-issue]
This could have been a great re-issue if some additional songs were included: b-sides, single versions, remixes, live recordings, etc (maybe a bonus CD or DVD). Still, this is a nice album to have, despite how much it overlaps with Millie's "Totally Unrestricted!" anthology. It is a concept album: it plays like a musical; each song is about the same relationship(s) and...

As a certain english bard noticed centuries ago, fashion may change, politics are changing, religions too,but basic human emotions stays the same."Caught up" recorded in 1974. still have the power to move the listener,27 years after its release, simply because subject of love triangle would always be the part of our relationships and on this album explores this story with unsurpassed passion and honesty.Yes,true, music with its early,pre-disco funk could be recognised as result of early 1970's but its the first class production and interpretation, nevertheless sounds great simply because its original and today funk stars are trying to achieve same effects. I found strange that at the time of release,Millie Jackson was considered to be singer who is hiding her vocal limitations with "rap",when to my ears her robust, gritty, passionate voice sounds like one of the best voices I ever heard (combination of Gladys Knight and Tina Turner).I guess that her underrated status comes from the fact that every black female singer at the time was compared to Aretha Franklin, and Jackson openly admitted that she never had any singing lessons in her life - which make her one of the great natural talents and for me,she is singer nr.1 - I heard "Caught Up" just a few days ago and althought I discovered it late (27 years after recording) I am fan for life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Play on "repeat" for days at a time!, December 1, 2006

This review is from: Caught Up / Still Caught Up (Audio CD)
Like a great Joan Crawford movie, this album grows in stature the more times you expose yourself to it's loopy logic and hyperactive emotionalism. It is GREAT music, as beautifully produced as anything from the 1970s. It's stuffed with drama and melodrama- child, they drag somebody off IN A STAIGHTJACKET at the end of this soap opera! There are truly adult situations and some great filthy gags. There are two foolish women, in love with the same cheating man, grappling for a little bit of happiness with violins, electric guitars and some great horns. Sure chortle about "that'd make us wife-in-laws!" but the beauty of the music and the real humanity of the characters will hold your attention for many, many hours. A TREASURE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Been a fan for a while, January 17, 2008
This review is from: Caught Up / Still Caught Up (Audio CD)
I have been listening to this same album since it first came out, and I was nine years old!! My mother, God rest her soul, was the other women that Millie portrayed. She absolutely LOVED this album; and it took me years to find out just why. I (and my 4 bros/sisters are the result of the cheating husband/other woman relationship. Of course the song means much more to me now than when I was a kid but the love of the music has never changed from the moment I heard it. Ms. Jackson is the most soulful artist to have graced us with her "untrained" voice. I highly recommend this as a kick back album for "the ladies."

Millie gets down on infidelity on this CD as the mistress. She gives a point of view of what it is to be the other woman. She goes into detail about the triangle that has ensued. Although her lover is married with children, she has those deep feelings for him. It's not always easy to break up with the one you love, even if he's attached to someone else.

Millie Jackson definitely put it down on these two recordings. I really loved all of the songs on this disc. This may well be her best recording along with the other title "Feelin' Bitchy". If you're any kind of fan of this lady's, then you should have this title in your collection. I'm still laughing and enjoying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic album, September 28, 2008
This review is from: Caught Up / Still Caught Up (Audio CD)
Millie Jackson's album Caught Up is simply the best. I had this album on vinyl years ago, when I was a youngster and I was over the moon to find it on CD. She has such a soulful voice and the story she tells about having an affair with a married man is gripping.
