Solid classroom-proven techniques turn students into better writers. Includes teacher keys, tests, and special notes for the home school teacher. A time-saver that really works!

About the Author
Jane Kiester is the author of the popular Caught'ya books: Caught'ya! Grammar with a Giggle; Caught'ya Again! More Grammar with a Giggle; The Chortling Bard! Grammar with a Giggle for High School; Giggles in the Middle: Caught'ya! Grammar with a Giggle for Middle School; Eggbert, the Ball, Bounces by Himself: Caught'ya! Grammar with a Giggle for First Grade; Putrescent Petra Finds Friends: Caught'ya! Grammar with a Giggle for Second Grade; and Juan and Marie Join the Class: Caught'ya! Grammar with a Giggle for Third Grade (these last three were formerly Elementary, My Dear! Caught'ya! Grammar with a Giggle for Grades 1, 2, and 3), all published by Maupin House. Teachers all over the country also use the new edition of her third book, Blowing Away the State Writing Assessment Test, to help improve their students' scores on state writing assessment tests. Jane's newest book is Teach Spelling So It Sticks! Quick and Clever Ways That Work for Grades 4-8.

In addition to writing books, Jane has given hundreds of workshops to fellow teachers around the country for the past ten years. Her subject? The same as in her classroom, where she happily taught elementary or middle school for more than 30 years -- teaching students to write well.

In her three decades as a classroom teacher, Jane has served many years as various department chairpersons and grade-level chairperson. She is also a past president of the Alachua County Teachers of English. Jane has been recognized three times by "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." In 2002 she won Teacher of the Year for her school and Middle School Teacher of the Year for her county.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for all students, September 6, 1999
By A Customer
I used Caught Ya for the first time last year with high schools (up to age nineteen) students who read and write between a third and sixth grade level. This program is excellent and works with all students. It is a strategy that makes even the most challenged students become successful and smart! It is fun and the kids truly enjoyed the challenge of "fixing" the sentence each day. Thanks for making grammar and vocabulary fun to teach! Buy this book.

May I also highly recommend the author's book "Blowing Away the State Writing Assessments". We incorporated it into our curriculum this year and highly recommend her four steps to increasing scores. I only wish the author was part of my faculty.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great "handbook" for teaching language arts, June 11, 2000
As a second-year 7th language arts teacher, I found this book to be an invaluable teaching tool! Following Kiester's proofreading sentence strategies, my students' test scores rose dramatically. The author also gives fantastic tips on enhancing reading and writing instruction, providing effective exercieses and ideas that my students thorougly enjoyed.

I have purchased many professional books / journals seeking to improve my teaching and students' attitudes towards grammar. If only these two books could have been my first purchases, then maybe I wouldn't have a dusty bookshelf full of rarely used teaching ideas. The prequel to this book, called Grammar With a Giggle is also a great buy. Both of these books contain strategies that I will continue to implement and expand upon!

3.0 out of 5 stars less useful than the first, October 2, 2002
By "lshotola" (chicago) - See all my reviews
i bought the two books together. the first is an absolute must. the second seems less applicable to me as a high school classroom teacher. a lot of it is directed at parents, tutors and homeschoolers -- if you fall into those categories, this book IS a must for you. i didn't get so much out of it. it does have more pre-fab stories, though. if you're not yet comfortable writing your own, you might want this.
