Editorial Reviews

Toro Y Moi is the sound the world has been waiting for. This multi-cultural juggernaut gathers up the best musical elements from around the globe R&B, Indie Rock, Electronic Dance and Psychedelica and creates something-freaking-else! Over the course of his first groundbreaking full length "Causers Of This", Toro Y Moi turns the aforementioned musics upside-down with his breathtakingly innovative approach. The incendiary power of Toro Y Moi's funky synth and guitar play, pumping digital rhythms and gorgeously bright vocal harmonies makes for a formidable combination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the year? December 5, 2010
Format:Audio CD
This is by far my favorite cd of the year. The raw emotion blending into the music and lyrics makes this cd an experience more than just an album.

Song standouts:
Fax Shadow
Imprints After
Talamak

5.0 out of 5 stars for what it's worth November 2, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Good sound here. Mix something like Bel Biv Devo with sample based house music like Daft Punk a bit of easy listening and have Thomas Mars of United era Phoenix do some vocs - now you have something like Toro Y Moi's album Causers of This. It's not the most exciting record in the universe, but it's kinda nice to chill to and just have in the background during lazy sex... or something like that.

My fav song is "You Hid" I think.

Recommended for a chill session. For what it's worth, this would have been the most incredible sheit back in 1999 with all the stupid ravers. Too bad for Toro, I don't think "chillwave" is going to gain much momentum.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soooooo good. December 27, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Although they sound absolutely nothing alike, I'd have to describe this as the best breakup masterpiece since Dinosaur Jr's "Where You Been". I can't stop listening to it. It's been weeks.

A seminal work of the chillwave genre, definitely deserves to be listened to all the way through. Great Carpark vinyl release also, simple and clean.

80's synths, funky basslines, broken hip hop beats a la J Dilla, and effect drenched vocals all wrapped up in indie pop package? It's a brilliant combination. Read more

This CD is definitely worth buying. Every song is great. I wish the disc was a little longer (a little over 30 minutes), but I'll take quality of quantity any day. Read more
