Editorial Reviews

Toro Y Moi is the sound the world has been waiting for. This multi-cultural juggernaut gathers up the best musical elements from around the globe R&B, Indie Rock, Electronic Dance and Psychedelica and creates something-freaking-else! Over the course of his first groundbreaking full length "Causers Of This", Toro Y Moi turns the aforementioned musics upside-down with his breathtakingly innovative approach. The incendiary power of Toro Y Moi's funky synth and guitar play, pumping digital rhythms and gorgeously bright vocal harmonies makes for a formidable combination.

This is by far my favorite cd of the year. The raw emotion blending into the music and lyrics makes this cd an experience more than just an album.

Song standouts:
Fax Shadow
Imprints After
Talamak

Although they sound absolutely nothing alike, I'd have to describe this as the best breakup masterpiece since Dinosaur Jr's "Where You Been". I can't stop listening to it. It's been weeks.

okay, something like that. this is my new favorite music, floaty pop music, great sound, great flow.
am tired of all the machine-like rhythms in electronic pop music...well, i love it when it's done right.
put some shoegaze 80's with madlib, a dash of flying lotus...whatever. it just works, and is worth purchasing NOW.

This CD is definitely worth buying. Every song is great. I wish the disc was a little longer (a little over 30 minutes), but I'll take quality of quantity any day. If you're a fan of shoegaze/dream-pop and sampled hip-hop you will enjoy this.

Toro y moi has gotten a good amount of buzz from music blogs, and with good reason. The kind of sound Chaz Bundick has managed to create with this album is really unique. I love the bass-filled beats in these songs, and the manipulation of samples is very psychedelic. I got into this album song by song, and I would recommend "Blessa" and "Low shoulder" as great jumping off points. However, the whole album is very cohesive, and there is some genuine, personal lyrical content here as well. Kind of a dreamy, instrumental mix of Flying Lotus and Panda Bear. This was the soundtrack to my summer.

80's synths, funky basslines, broken hip hop beats a la J Dilla, and effect drenched vocals all wrapped up in indie pop package? It's a brilliant combination. There is a tasteful balance of sun drenched psychedelia and melody. The production is impressive from a technical standpoint. It manages to sound spontaneous and organic while at the same time being well orchestrated, a feat few manage to pull off successfully. The album does a Jimi Hendrix and ends before it can start sucking; it clocks in at just under 33 minutes. This is a very solid release that will resonate well with anyone with an open mind looking for some good music to decompress too. Highly recommended!

One of those albums that you can sit and listen through the entire things without hitting the skip button on any songs. Each song on this album is short (about 2-3 minutes on most songs), but it's nice that way. Sure there are some songs that I wish would be a little longer (like "Lissoms", which has a perfect groove to it), but for the most part, the shorter length of songs prevents tracks from getting boring or dragging. This album has a more chilled out vibe, nothing here that will get your blood pumping, but for those of us that like our music on the softer side, this album is pretty solid from start to finish.

Good sound here. Mix something like Bel Biv Devo with sample based house music like Daft Punk a bit of easy listening and have Thomas Mars of United era Phoenix do some vocs - now you have something like Toro Y Moi's album Causers of This. It's not the most exciting record in the universe, but it's kinda nice to chill to and just have in the background during lazy sex... or something like that.

My fav song is "You Hid" I think.

Recommended for a chill session. For what it's worth, this would have been the most incredible sheit back in 1999 with all the stupid ravers. Too bad for Toro, I don't think "chillwave" is going to gain much momentum.
