5.0 out of 5 stars The first time real gay life has been captured so purely., May 4, 2009

I have been following Cavalcade since it was in Comic issue format. Finally the full collection, edited, cleaned up a bit, and with lots of bonuses. Cavalcade is the first time i have read something that captures REAL gay life so perfectly.

Get it now, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightfully Gay Comic Romp, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Cavalcade of Boys Complete Collection (Paperback)
A beautifully drawn and thought out collection of comics which, yes, happen to be populated by gay men and the occasional lesbian (fortunately, occupying a middle range between psycho killers and accountants, for the most part). Since the individual issues are evidently scarcer than the proverbial hen's teeth, this is the best way to experience the Fishiness. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Re-Reviewed and still happy!, July 12, 2011

This review is from: Cavalcade of Boys Complete Collection (Paperback)
I posted my original review on the three book combo, but I'll reiterate here.

Two things define Tim Fish's work: an ability to capture, spot on, a cast of characters that are simultaneously unique and universal; and an art style that is distinct, dramatic, and touching. You wont find any glossy Disney eyes or pointy blue manga hair. What you will find is a fluid narrative winding its way amongst the pit-falls and triumphs of modern love. You'll find characters you immediately recognize from your daily life: the flighty barista, the frat jock, the lech, the bubbly girlfriend and the tender matron. You'll also be taken on a tour of the gay community that gently pokes fun at - and exemplifies - all the camp, drama, love and hurt.

I recommend this as a must-read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, October 30, 2010

I received this book a couple of days ago and haven't been able to set it aside since. The first night, I finished the collection, and then felt motivated to read it again. And again. Three times in and I still want to keep reading it. The stories are slice-of-life in a very good way. This comic proves you don't need superheroes fighting for a just cause, loads of violence, or overabundance of curse words to be an excellent read. Tim Fish has a wonderful ability to infuse each situation with real emotion but never gets bogged down by excessive angst. He doesn't use his characters as mouthpieces for political or social commentary (however worthy). They are, instead, just allowed to be, to exist freely, to delight by getting out into the world, letting their hearts be broken only to come back stronger, and finding their own satisfying endings.

The reason I keep going back to the book is that I don't want it to end. I want to keep reading about Tighe, Warren, Eric, and all the rest of the wonderful souls in "Cavalcade of Boys."

5.0 out of 5 stars A slice of life, with a twist of lemon., April 29, 2007
This review is from: Cavalcade of Boys Complete Collection (Paperback)
Comic Cavalcade of Boys has the look and feel of book written from the inside of Starbucks. Mr. Fish, if you're reading, this comment is a compliment. Fish has an eye than has seen it all: the twinks, the trolls who chase them; the girls with no issues; the seemingly perfect same sex couple that is simmering below the surface; the Gay men who are and are not comfortable with being friends with other men. Fish has seen many things and more. And it's a diverse community, Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Whites, Lesbians...everybody.

Fish originally produced his stories online and then got them published. They're great stories and they're easily readable and enjoyable for a wide audience. If you're LGBT, buy this book; if you know someone who is LGBT buy this book; if you or someone you know have ever had or rejected thoughts about LGBT issues, read this book. You won't be the same afterwards.

Original and intriguing graphic style, characterization superb, mopstly melancholic, sometimes bitter, with a few sunny episodes. I Just love Warren, Eric, and Eddy, among others! A great strip.
