2.0 out of 5 stars Doris Lung I want to marry you!, April 8, 2007
A man is holding a martial arts tournament for anybody who wants to fight his granddaughter. The prize for winning is marrying her. And his granddaughter is Doris Lung! After annihilating everyone that comes along, Sze Ma Lung accidentally gets involved in a fight and beats Doris quite easily. Sze Ma Lung stars as a Ming Patriot who has to avoid the Chings and now has to avoid Doris Lung's grandfather. After retrieving a secret name list, he looks to take down the evil white haired warlord played by Lo Lieh. Lo Lieh uses magic kung fu and this is some sort of internal style where you can take blows without being hurt (it's not really explained). The final fight gets a little weird when Lo Lieh starts using some kind of emotional style.

The movie is very boring with long drawn out comic sequences, but the action barely manages to make up for it. Sze Ma Lung is not of of the best kung fu performers ever, but he is still VERY good. His fist forms are certainly among the best, but he doesn't get to do enough action in this. There are plenty of fights and one of the few highlights is Sze's fight with a guy known as big mouth. He is the strongman in 'Blooded Treasury Fight' and is one of Lung fei's two students in 'One Armed Boxer'. And Lung Fei very briefly appears in this movie. Doris lung is also very good in her limited action. Like most movies from Joseph Kuo, the editing can be a bit choppy, undercranking is a little overused, and the trick editing using flips and such is overdone. The action is still pretty good. Lo Lieh is decent in his only fight, but he shows up with only 17 minutes left in the movie. Not one of Kuo's best, below average.

2/5

The DVD from Groundzero is full screen and picture quality is watchable. Bonus fights include clips from the cripple classic 'Four Invincibles', some good choreography from 'Art of War', the horribly bad 'Eagle Vs. Silver Fox', and 'One Man Army' which is a decent Yueh Hua movie.

Also, Amazon obviously has this movie listed with the wrong actors but it says the distributor is Groundzero which is correct. Amazon has a lot of problems with putting reviews for many different movies on one item because they all have the same or similiar name. I have stopped emailing them about all of the movies this occurs with because they never fixed any of them. It must be a glitch in the system, but it would be REALLY nice to see this get fixed one day. 'The Crying Freeman' live action movie is mixed in with the anime series, somehow they think 'Shaolin Hero' (Meng Fei and Leung Kar Yan) is the same movie as 'Ninja Hunter' (Jack Long and Chang Shan), and there are a lot of problems with the reviews for the Zatoichi movies. Too many problems to name.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shaking Eagle battles Lo lei, May 7, 2001
By Erik James (Orono, Me USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cavalier (Dub Ep) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Shaking eagle plays the role of a young revolutionary being hunted by the ching lord. Along with running away from the government he is also on the run from a crazy grandfather trying to wed off his grand daughter. A mix of comedy and great kung fu. A must see, in my mind a classic.
