Product Description

As an exceptionally powerful and useful hardware tool, this standalone hard drive duplicator turns what used to be a daunting and complicated task into a simple push of a button! Any 2.5-Inch or 3.5-Inch SATA hard drive or SSD, with any operating system, disk format, or file type, can be duplicated without a computer connection or any advanced computer skills. If the original drive was bootable, the copied drive will be bootable. Hidden files, system files, applications, license keys are all copied intact.

I recently needed to do a hard drive upgrade on my PC without having to go through the reinstallation of my software. I looked into many options out there. I even purchased and returned a few different products in the market. None of them worked as easy as the Retriever from Cavalry. All I did was put my source hard drive in Bay 1, put the new hard drive in Bay 2, push the button and watched the lights blink for a few minutes and DONE!
It is really amazing how they made this process so easy. At the end, I formatted my old drive, drop it in this product and use it as an external secondary hard drive without having to get an external case or enclosure for it. This is truly a great product. Saved a lot of time for me!

Worked exactly as described! I used this to copy a failing HHD to a bigger capacity HHD. 500GB to a 1TB took about 4 hours. Drives get hot but that is NORMAL. Most people don't realize how hot their HHD get because they are inside the computer case so you really never get to feel the heat these suckers give off.

I love that you can use a 2.5" or 3.5" HHD and that you can use this as a JBOD as well. This product feels well made and seems it will last for a long time with proper care. The only complaint is that the codes for what the lights do are under the device so it makes it hard to look at the codes while the device is in use.

I was looking for portable external drive options but couldn't find anything that was trustable. Based on the reviews from a wide range of external drive products, most of the problems/complaints stem either from useless or poorly implemented aspects of the external enclosures, power management, worthless software preinstalled, or bad hard drive manufacturing (of course). I stumbled upon the cavalry and had a major light bulb above the head moment. Once you find a family of dependable hard drives (Seagate Momentus and Western Digital Scorpios get good ratings and have been working well for me), just eliminate the "middleware" completely, assuming this (the cavalry) can do the job.

Getting this was probably one of the best purchasing decisions I've made this year. With USB 3.0 access speeds this works great as an external drive - actually two externals if you use both ports. I never have done it this way since I'm always afraid of what would happen if pressing the DB/Clone button with two live drives in the slots (and I'm the personality type that would eventually be tempted enough to find out). I've run it all day long and haven't had significant heat buildup on the drive itself. Running virtual machines and MSSQL databases through this as a "native" drive has been seamless with no notable performance costs. Rather than having piles of external drives (each with their own AC bricks and dated enclosure design hang-ups) this supplies a much more efficient long term solution. There are plenty of external enclosure options out there if at some point you need a bare drive to go portable, so you've got the best of both worlds with this.

BUT THEN comes the best part - as a complete image copier this thing will have paid for itself the first time you backup an OS/Application drive.

Like the other comments on here, time is money. I do computer repair out of my house and I bought this to make 1:1 copies of peoples failing HD's. It's fast using my 3.0 port and it does a heck of a job.
For those of you using it for the first time and running Win7. Make sure you update your O.S. first, as some out dated drivers won't work, I had this problem but once the drivers were updated from M.S. and my 3.0 driver company, it runs at 100+ MB speed.
The only thing that would have made this piece of equipment out of this world would have been some fans to keep the hard drives cool, but when I use this device the HD's aren't in it very long so, no biggie! Good Job Calvary !

Does exactly what it says, plug in drives and it shows up as an external drive on your machine. One issue I experienced at least on OSX, if you plug in one drive and it shows up on your computer then plug in another drive it *EJECTS* the first drive before re-mounting both. So if you had any transfers or processes going on your first drive those would all fail or abort. Not a very convenient way of hot swapping drives so just have to make sure you have nothing going on your first drive before plugging in a second.
