Among the documentary contenders, which are all outstanding this year, Cavedigger illuminates the experience of creativity--when an aritist is faced with a driving, hypnotic inner force to make 'the vision' come to life, regardless of challenges faced on the journey.
This is a powerful, uplifting film about following that which feeds your soul. With so much sadness in our daily news and on movie screens across the country, this film restores hope for those who may have lost sight of their dreams and/or artistic visions. Bravo Ra and thank you Jeffrey for bringing Ra's absolutely amazing dwellings to light in such an eloquent way!

Ra Paulette is not your average sculptor. And his hollowed out caves filled with undulating carvings, meant to trigger insights and enthusiasm, are not your typical artworks. In Cavedigger, which received a nomination for a 2013 Best Short Documentary Academy Award, director Jeffrey Karoff shows Paulette making interior cave spaces that provide viewers an immersive, transformative experience, and working through the struggles that come with the lifestyle. It is an inspiring view of a truly underground art form and may even for the viewer stimulate some of the feelings gained by visiting the caves themselves.

Very interesting video. Wish it had been longer than 38 minutes and also wish it had shown more and better shots off the interior of the caves. Additionally wish it had better explained the status of the other caves, how many there were, if any of them were available by their owners to view, etc, etc. So much info was left out.

Sincerely hope some of the proceeds go to support his efforts. Well be watching for updates to it.

Excellent documentary. It made me feel good knowing that there are people in this world like Ra. I hope he gets to finish one.

I have been to one of the caves in the documentary, twice; all I can say is WOW!!! It was the most magical man made place I have ever been inside of. It was a thrill to be able to see it on film! What dedication Ra has!!!

Great, realistic story of a cave artist. Reveals the difficulties of being an artist when you have no choice but to do what you must!
