songwriting progression,

I saw Recover live and they floored me.... this EP unfortunately lacks the punch or visceral intensity of their live show, and is more or less a total departure from Rodeo and Picasso. Still, these guys can write a good song, and all 5 of these will end up stuck in your head. "My Only Cure" and "Push Push" are upbeat, infectious rock with a touch of 'emo'. If you get a chance to see them, go.

This album is one of the best rock records I've heard in years. And guess what? It was recorded six years ago! This album is a sleeper and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes rock music. The songs and arrangements are amazing and the energy to this album blows me away. I was familiar with Dan Keyes already from his Young Love project, but later learned that this was the band he sang in before Young Love existed. This album showed me that Dan Keyes is an incredible talent and that his band mates in Recover are the collaborative team that truly help him shine as a vocalist. Buy this album now. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Our little Recover is all growed up now.,

I just got a copy of Ceci... for my birthday. I've been a big Recover fan since I heard "Elimination" on Road Fools 9 a year or so ago and went out and bought myself a copy of Rodeo & Picasso. I realize I'm pretty late getting this one, but I'm way, way happy with it. It has all the things I grew to love about Recover, in tightly measured doses... with texture, harmony, and subtlety thrown in, gratis. I've never seen them live, missed my most recent chance--and will not let that happen again.

recover's new cd,

what's everyone complaining about? i think this release is full of good songs. sure, this might be a little more poppy than Rodeo and Picasso but at least this band is evolving unlike too many other bands of the moment. besides, this is just an e.p. which may or may not shed light on the path recover will take in the future. my advice... if you liked the last album this one will build on it...so buy it!!!

Wow, some people are really stupid.,

Let's set a few things straight:1)The title is FRENCH, not Spanish. 2)It's 'ok' for something not to be 'hardcore' or 'screamo' 3)It's also 'ok' to try something 'different'*GASP!* 4)Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but some people are morons and should never procreate *looks in the direction of the past 2 reviewers* With that said, we can now continue with the actual review. I have not a bad thing to say about this cd. The songs are catchier than the plague. Each one of them is amazing in one way or another. Like previous Recover songs, most of them are laced with style changes, little solos, dissonant guitars, and amazing vocals. Contrary to other views on this page, the "screams" are more tasteful and meld better with the style of the songs. Additional vocals and a piano interlude or two by the one and only Rory Allen Phillips (of impossibles/slowreader/imbroco/the20goto10 and a thousand other bands-fame) do nothing but sweeten the deal on this 13 minute eargasm. Just because it's not the last recover cd doesn't mean it's bad. Maybe this cd was titled "This is Not Recover" for a reason.....think about it a little =) Rockin' goodness at its best.

Push Push,

I have been listening to Recover since they were selling their 4-track demo CDs for $2 at the Student Union at Univ. of TX. They have been a great band for a long time, and this CD continues in that trend. By taking a little bit of edge off their sound, it allows the music to come through a lot better, but still give a nice, hard sound. I say that it is at least as good as the 'Rodeo and Picasso' LP; same great guitar riffs, vocals, bass beats, and great drums. This is good music, for good people; just like a restaurant, but like... you know, music.By the way, for all you artistically and classically devoid people, "ceci n'est pas recover" (translated to 'this is not recover') is a joking reference to a painting by Rene Magritte, painted in 1928, called "ceci n'est pas une pipe" (translated to 'this is not a pipe'). The painting of a pipe was titled as such because the image was the picture of a pipe, not the real thing. Recover's selection of this as their title was a joke, not an emo-esque statement. Anyway, its a good EP.

some bands can pull it off, they did not,

Every Austin 'scenester' by now has either bought or downloaded the latest outing from hard emo rockers Recover. The EP entitled "Ceci N'est Pas Recover" (Spanish for 'This is Not Recover, pretty lame in my book) is on Fiddler Records and can only be described as 'extremely alright'. Gone are the hardcorish screams of Robert Mann that kicked off the bands full length and are replaced with what sounds to be screaming as loudly as possible without actually screaming. The record is much darker than 'Rodeo & Picasso' and the songwriting is mildly improved. 'Bad Timing', the first track is a damn good live song, but fails to cut it just as well in the studio. 'Push Push' is by far the worst Recover song I've ever heard, but is followed up by 'Sleeper', which is INSTRUMENTALLY, Recovers finest song, with the possible exception of 'Sympathetic Sickness'. The last song "Inhale Water" is pretty good, but suffers from what I call the 'trying to hard to look artsy' disorder. All in all, this record isn't all that bad, but its isn't all that good either...

recover, you make me upset. i dont understand. i want to cry. this release is nothing like the goodness of the last cd. this album reeks of poppiness and happy radio tunes unlike anything i have ever heard before. i have never really understood what selling out was until this album met my ears. this cd is a definite step down from their last stellar release, lets hope that recover finds out how to make good music again someday.
