Great Entry Level Bass, September 9, 2011
This review is from: Cecilio CDB-200 Size 3/4 Flamed Upright Double Bass w/Adjustable Bridge
I just got this bass a few days ago, and for the money, its worth it.
obviously, this is not a concert bass, I am picking it up again after years and was looking for an inexpensive bass, it sounds quality is actually better than what you might expect, but its not a masterpiece of craftsmanship. even if it was, if you are playing on a $700 bass, your playing is whats making the tone like that, I know mine is! that being said, its seems sturdy enough, it arrived without a scratch on it, and all the joints/seams are good. also the sound post was in the right place, and not rolling around on the inside.
the seller contacted me about the special shipping arrangements and it arrived on time, even had the truck driver call me moments before it arrived to make sure i was there to receive and inspect it.
the bow and bag are great for the price, I tossed the rosin and ordered some pops, but its only 8-15 bucks for some nice rosin so why use cheap stuff? it also came with a tuner and a dvd, I already had a tuner but this one seems like a decent back up and agrees with my nicer one. I have yet to watch the dvd but it was a nice touch.
putting in the bridge was easy if you have ever done it before, if not youtube has videos.
the bass could use a good set up, and I might play with the bridge and nut a little to get the strings to be more comfortable, if you don't feel like doing this a decent music shop should be able to help. at this price though, its not a bad one to start learning a little more about bass maintenance and set up on.
only bad things so far: it doesn't like to stay in tune for very long but its probably the stings and everything settling, because it seems to need less adjustment each time i pick it up.
also, the neck is a little thicker than I like but this is a matter of personal taste, but it might be a bit much for a child or young teen. but the smaller size basses might be best if you or your child is little.
all in all, I recommend it, and look forward to getting back into the swing of bass playing.
one more thing, I ordered it from Ebay because shipping was included, but it was from the same seller
