This violin came well packed and the shipment was fast. The caring case is of very good quality material and upon opening I noticed everything was very well packaged. I removed the beautiful instrument and did not notice any defects in the wood or if the stain had any imperfections. In fact I was very happy with the appearance the absolutely wonderful rosewood finish. I tuned the instrument with the electronic tuner they provided and after rosining the bow I placed it on the strings and played. It had such a nice and warm sound to it. I was very happy with this violin until I noticed the neck of the fingerboard was out of alignment 3/8 of an inch (too much) and did not line up with the strings. Disappointed and very sad I put it back into the box and sent it back to Amazon for a refund. After reading all the other review I notice this is a common issue with this manufacture. If the factory had a better quality control this violin could sell for a whole lot more money and I would not be returning it.

In light of the price I wasn't expecting a Stradivarius; however, due to the "teacher approved" comments and having played violin in an award winning orchestra several decades ago, I thought this might be OK and something fun for my upcoming retirement. Not so...this violin is unplayable. The neck and fingerboard are not aligned properly with the body of the violin. The G string is skewed to the point it is outside the fingerboard area making it impossible to finger upper notes. The G string is at least 1/4" of an inch outside the confines of the end of the fingerboard. Because the neck and fingerboard are crooked, it is impossible to finger the notes correctly on any of the strings and impossible to tune the 'old' way from the G string.

As for the 'free' electronic tuner that comes with this violin, it is also useless. The notes to which one is supposed to tune the violin sound as if they come from a B grade movie robot. I was able to tune the violin using a much better quality tuner. I then compared the tuners and this 'free' one was several notes off and would not stay on note but rather bounced around from G to C to A without the G string having been tightened or loosened.

The case is not deep enough to properly house the violin. In fact, when I first opened the case and saw the violin I was puzzled as to why the right top edge of the bridge was flattened. It was then I noticed that the fabric on the inside of the case top was cut from the pressure of the case being forced closed leaving the bridge and the A and E strings pressed tightly into the fabric. This pressure caused by the shallow depth of the case will cause bridges to break and eventually damage the body of the violin and position of the sound post.

As a precursor, prior to receiving this violin I have never had any experience on a stringed instrument.

As a complete beginner I must say I am very pleased. My instrument came with the bridge installed, and it took me around 30 minutes to tune it, with the included tuner. Which I will admit was slightly frustrating to do by myself but I figured it out. The rosin it comes with is rock hard so I heated it up on my stove with some aluminum foil and that seemed to really help get the rosin to transfer to the bow.

For what I spent on the package I could not be happier, the instrument sounds great to me and I am having a blast playing it. I am on my third day of practice and have noticed lots of improvement. The music book that the violin comes with is not a comprehensive guide so be prepared to youtube some violin videos if you are teaching yourself. I have had great luck using fiddlerman.com as an extra resource.

Also make sure you order some peg drops, this will help to keep the pegs from slipping and prevent the violin from going out of tune.

Final thoughts,
-The rosin you receive with this instrument is not good, spend an extra 4 dollars and order some other rosin.
-You will need to spend a good chunk of time tuning it.
-The instrument works and sounds great to me and I look forward to picking my violin up each time i practice.

All in all I'm very happy with my instrument

Ron

Pros: Arrived quickly. Everything was included. The case was fine. Didn't notice any neck alignment issues that were mentioned in other reviews.

Con: IT WAS A HIDEOUS ORANGE COLOR. It looked awful with the wood colored chin rest.

I know you get what you pay for and we were just looking for a cheap practice violin for my daughter. She has had a smaller cecilio violin and it has served us great. Its sound is fine, after the initial break in period, it holds its tune excellently. I thought at first I'd need to buy some peg stop, but after the first could tunes they don't slip at all.

This one was just bright orange and nothing like the pictures. Returning immediately.
