Great Violin for the Price,
This review is from: Cecilio CVN-500 4/4 Size (Full Size) Ebony Fitted Antique Finish Flamed Violin with Case and Accessories
I just received this outfit today. Here are my first impressions:
Looks: The violin has a nice antique finish. The sides and back are nicely flamed. It looks like it is a much more expensive unit. It seems to be built well - I don't have to worry about the back splitting in half at some point. Sound: The strings that come with are satisfactory, but I would recommend replacing them with some Dominants. The original strings sound good once you rosin the bow for about five minutes (see below), but they are still not very responsive. The violin holds its tune well. Accessories: This unit comes with two bows. The product description says they are real wood, but they sure do feel a lot like plastic. You really have to rosin them up forever before they will produce any sound. I would suggest buying a half decent bow for thirty bucks at the local music shop. I would also replace the rosin that comes with, as it seems to be a bit "dried out". The extra bridge and pitch pipes are a bonus. The case is surprisingly nice and protects the instrument well. Overall, I don't think you can beat the price for this unit. If you are willing to replace the strings and bow for an extra sixty dollars, this outfit will still be much cheaper than others on the market. It is a great value for the price.

Cecelio cvn-500 3/4 violin,
This review is from: Cecilio CVN-500 4/4 Size (Full Size) Ebony Fitted Antique Finish Flamed Violin with Case and Accessories
I purchased this violin for my daughter to start orchestra. My local music store showed me what to look for in a quality violin, like having the name inside the violin itself and a serial number which this one did. The satin finish is perfect for hiding finger prints. This violin is every bit just as nice as the $400.00 to $500.00 dollar violins I was looking at in the music store. It came with everything to get started including a chin rest and an extra bow. My daughter has played it in orchestra for about a month and no problems.

Good Violin for the Price,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Cecilio CVN-500 4/4 Size (Full Size) Ebony Fitted Antique Finish Flamed Violin with Case and Accessories
My first problem and I'm not sure if this is just only me but I broke a bridge the third time I tried to tune it and it wasn't that much pressure. Good thing it came with a extra one. I have had it for about 4 days and the G and D strings come out of tune when I tune A and E and I used peg drops. So I figured I would just buy a better bridge since they do look kinda cheap. When adjusting the G string it snapped so I put on the extra and it snapped. With not much pressure.Maybe I just have bad strings.I decided with the price of the violin maybe I should just check into better strings. This could be just a problem with the violin I have. From other reviews it sounds like it might be.
If you are new to the violin I recommended getting the korg chromatic tuner and peg drops plus they are pretty cheap to find.Might not hurt to buy extra strings and a better bridge for when the two it comes with go out. It sounds great though for the price.I am just a starter to the violin but in my mind its a pretty good starting point until I advance.Comes with mostly everything you need to get started.Even though I had problems I still highly recommend it.

This is a great violin for both beginners and advanced players,
This review is from: Cecilio CVN-500 4/4 Size (Full Size) Ebony Fitted Antique Finish Flamed Violin with Case and Accessories
I took a chance on this violin, and I am really glad I did. The sound quality of this violin is truly excellent. The finishing job is good, but not super. The strength of this violin is its beatiful sound quality. My opinion is that the finishing quality is pretty much worth what you are paying for, but the sound quality is at least worth 3 to 4 times the price of this unit.

Do not buy this violin, you are not getting anything for your money. This violin (or at least the one they sent me) is better used as a nice wall piece. The nut is too low so the strings sit right on the mishaped fingerboard. Not to mention that the nut is also un-even. The pegs are too short and do not fit the peg box correctly. One bow was strung to tight which warped the wood making it difficult to play with and the other bow's skrew is stipped which makes it a hit or miss if you can even tighten it. The fine tuners hardley do there job and the strings come out of toon very easily. When tuned playing the strings open sound good, but try playing other note... it probably is not going to happen. This may just be a case of me getting a jacked up violin, but there is no reason that this 'unplayable violin' should have made it past inspection.

My husband bought me this violin for my birthday this year. He knew how much I enjoyed playing the violin as a child and it really made my year. When I got the violin, I was a bit worried because the outer box had been mushed a little bit. However, when I opened it up the box that the violin was in was perfectly intact. I have started lessons recently and I have found that the strings and bow are in good working order. When the strings are stroked by the bow, they sing beautifully.

This is without a doubt the worst violin I have ever had the displeasure of playing. The violin looks nothing like the way it did in the pictures, the strings sounded annoying, of the fine tuners three were broken, the violin feels like plastic, the craftwork was mediocre. One day I took off the strings to replace them and the fingerboard fell off! And if it can't get any worse, the piece holding the tail piece popped off and it was hell putting it back in. When I replaced the strings with some quality fourty dollar strings, the violin still sounded like garbage! Don't be so quick to buy a violin, save your money and buy from some better brands. Remember, you get what you pay for...

avoid this instrument,
This review is from: Cecilio CVN-500 4/4 Size (Full Size) Ebony Fitted Antique Finish Flamed Violin with Case and Accessories
Most disappointing purchase. The specs. sound right, but the sound, even after a year is horrible. Unfocused buzz-saw tone with wolf notes all over the place. I have had this violin professionally set up twice (tone bar adjustments, Zuex strings etc...) and the results never change. A bag of kittens thrown into a rusty wood chipper would sound more musical than this poor excuse for a stringed instrument. Last time I will ever order a music instrument over the internet. I wish I had spent a little more and bought an instrument that I could enjoy playing.

I live in a condo. When I first started playing I would use the mute. First time I played without the mute, "OUCH"! Sounds like your playing a tin can. Replaced the strings with expensive ones, still sounds like crap. Best advice don't buy over the net.

I bought my Cecilio a year ago, I have had a luthier replace the bridge, the strings and move the soundpost and it still sounds terrible. I wish I would have visited the flea market and got an old beater upper fixed it up for what I have invested in this one.
