Aloha Spirit,
By Frank J Frisella (Redwood City, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cecilio And Kapono (Audio CD)
I was only 7 when I first heard C&K, it was 1976 and I was with my family on vacation, and I have enjoyed them since I first heard them. These albums are timeless, the warm feelings and memories they bring back are worth every penny. This music has gotten me through both great and horrible times. If I had to pick one artist to have with me at all times, these guys would be it! You gotta love the Aloha spirit!

I first heard Cecilio & Kapono in 1974 when stationed in the Navy at Pearl Harbor....Just finding this treasure again brought back memories of good times, warm weather, palm trees, forgotten friends and even a tear or two.

One of the top 3 contemporary Hawaiian albums of all time.,

This is an essential contemporary Hawaiian recording. Every cut on the CD has become a classic that, 25 years after release, can still be heard daily on radio stations in Hawaii.

An instant radio favorite,

Cecilio & Kapono's incredible debut album positioned the venerable duo as a force to reckon with when this came out in 1974. Almost immediately, nearly all the tracks became local top 40 radio favorites. The original lead single was "Gotta Get Away" backed with "Song For Someone." Both tracks got heavy airplay among top 40 hits of the day like "Band on the Run" and "The Joker." We're talking 1974 here. Additionally, "All in Love is Fair," "Sunflower" and "Friends" became faves too.

Cecilio & Kapono's Dynamite Debut Album,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cecilio And Kapono (Audio CD)
What a debut album! This duo from Hawaii has fantastic harmony. They sound like a cross between Seals & Crofts and Loggins & Messina. This album was recorded in the 70's, but the music is timeless. Once you listen to this album, you'll want to buy their subsequent albums, which are also excellent.

Cecilio and Kapono were so much a part of living in the Islands in the 70's. I was there with the Navy and they would perform at open air concerts. Finding this album and it's companion album "Elua" which means "two" or "second" in Hawaiian, was a real thrill for me. Both albums are classical C & K and they are both equally great. It's truly like reconnecting with an oldfriend. This is one of those sure fire deals where you can't go wrong. There's not a bad cut on either album. Sit back and enjoy the rare treat that doesn't happen often in the music world.

I was tuned into them when this was released on vinyl. The music holds up over the years and is still a beautiful collection to toss into your mix.Especially check out..."Sunflower", "All in Love Is Fair"and "Friends". Great soulful stuff.

I first heard C&K in 1970 when I moved to Kauai. I spent the next 36 years enjoying their music. They're the best.

I use to hear this being played by the locals or on the ferry boat between Maui and Lanai'. It reminds me of driving to Manale Bay with the Waimanalo boys. It brings me back aboard that boat. Beautiful weather and beautiful people. This is a great easy-time, lay back, talk story album!
