"Look no further for a wonderful way to create memories and celebrate Advent with your family."  —Sue Johnson, coauthor, Grandloving: Making Memories with Your Grandchildren

"It is such a good book, excellent stories and lovely illustrations. It's great for kids but also for the whole family. It is a book that can be read aloud and shared with the family."  —Leonard Kessler, author and illustrator, Mr. Pine’s Purple House

A wonderful way for children to learn about Christmas traditions around the world.

During every evening of Advent, choose a story to read together with your family, then hang the matching ornament.

As a grandmother and author of the book, Grandloving: Making Memories with Your Grandchildren, I am always looking for new fun ways to create memories with our grandchildren. Celebrate Advent provides a lovely tradition that can be repeated every Christmas season. Each night of Advent read one of these short stories and then hang the matching ornament on a tree. The colorful ornaments can be easily stored in a pocket at the back of the book, ready for next years tradition to begin again. The stories, taken from Christmas legends from around the world, depict the common thread of God using ordinary people, animals and plants to announce the Coming of His Son. The underlying message of each story is clear, "Whoever humbles himself shall be exalted."

A wonderful way for children to learn about Christmas traditions around the world. Each of the 25 short stories provides insight into into Advent as it is celebrated in different countries. The cut-out ornaments are a colorful reminder of the meaning of Christmas for children from other places. The ornaments can be saved in a pocket in the back of the book and rehung year after year. A highly recommended family book

I have given both of Judith Vicary Swisher's books to my own as well as to my special families each Christmas. Both books - Celebrate Advent: 25 Legends and Ornaments, and The Last Ornament - are so loved by everyone that it has become a tradition to give, receive and read them each year. I hope Judith writes another. She has many fans waiting!

Celebrate Advent: 25 Legends and Ornaments is a fun way for children to learn more about Christmas while being exposed to nature and good values such as the joy of giving. Each story is just two pages telling legends from many countries. The illustrations are superb and very decorative. There are ornaments illustrating each story, and they can be punched out to use for decoration and saved for future years.

The telling of the birth of Jesus is clear and appropriate for young children. The origins of Santa Claus are fascinating to any age. Explanations of the symbols of the star, the pine tree, the Christmas rose, and many more are interesting stories. In particular, the "Littelest Camel" which is in the story from Syria, was new to me. I remember the story of Babushka from my childhood, and I'm so glad it was included in this collection of legends. I highly recommend the book for gifts for children - colorful and easy to read or be read to.
