5.0 out of 5 stars you gotta have this CD!
If you like show tunes, you'll love this CD! I couldn't stop listening to it. It has a great selection of classic broadway music that is, for the most part, upbeat and funny. It is perfect for the car. This particular CD is vol. 2 of Celebrate Broadway! I've also heard vol.1, which is a good collection. However, I much preferred vol.2 over vol.1. If you're going to buy...

This review is from: Celebrate Broadway Vol. 2: You Gotta Have A Gimmick (Audio CD)
I almost felt cheated after listening to the CD the first time. The second time looked brighter, and the third time through improved my perspective. However, I still hate "Siberia", "Shuffle Off To Buffalo", and the title song, "You Gotta Have A Gimmick". I had never heard of most of these musicals but some provided surprisingly good songs, like "Crossword Puzzle", "Step To The Rear", and "Lizzie Borden". It's a completely random collection of songs, good for the Broadway Fan who is sick of finding CDs with "If I were A Rich Man" and "All That Jazz" on every Broadway mix they find. I would recommend taking the CD out of the library for free first before buying it however.

2.0 out of 5 stars A few interesting things...., July 22, 2003

This review is from: Celebrate Broadway Vol. 2: You Gotta Have A Gimmick (Audio CD)
This is one of the oddest collections of Broadway music ever put together. This collection of "novelty songs" includes some from classic musicals such as "I can't say No" from "Oklahoma", "A Well Known Fact" from "I Do, I Do" and a few others. It also contains one of the worst songs ever recorded - "Chicken is He" as well as "Mama will Provide". Some of the lesser known songs such as "Arthur in the Afternoon" and the "Crossword Puzzle" are pleasant but this isn't one you'll listen to again and again.
