I highly recommend this book for those looking for a devotional for their family. Concise, short, easy to use. Perfect after dinner.

This is a wonderful book to use during the Advent through Epiphany season. We have used ours with our children since 2000. It is to be used with an Advent wreath as a daily devotion. Each day a candle is lit, a scripture read, a reflection on the scripture, a song, prayer and activity. The activity is done with a nativity set. For example the first night the stable is set up empty. The next night Mary & Joseph are place in an area across the room. Each night different figures are added and moved closer to the stable. Finally they all arrive at the stable on Christmas Eve and then baby Jesus is placed in the manger. Through Epiphany the wise men are added and move to the manger. This same author has written a similar book for the season of Lent. I'm sorry they are out of print since they are such meaningful traditions. I have purchased many as gifts. Good for children ages 5-10(ours are much older now).

We are using it now, and we love it. It's the first time we have done Advent candles and "building" a Nativity (adding the people and animals daily, rather than all at once.)
For each night, you light the appropriate candle/s, read a Bible passage, have a little lesson with questions, read a quick prayer and then add to the nativity. You just follow the book. There's also a song for each day, but we haven't done that, mostly because it's hard enough to keep the toddler interested lol. Next year, we will add the singing.
I highly recommend it. I looked at a LOT of Advent devotional type books before I chose this one, and I'm happy with my choice. Oh, and be sure to read the introduction before Advent begins, because there are some things you will need beforehand for some nights (easy things, like a shiny coin or a ring)

We moved 2,000 miles away from home, to go on a short-term missions trip. At Christmas time, I wanted our Advent book back and could not find this. I purchased 3 other Advent books, one after another, and was hugely disappointed each time. This book has become too big of a part of our family to use anything else. It's from Advent to Epiphany. We don't go past Christmas, but the rest of the days are there. It includes a devotional, scripture, music, and suggestions. Even if you buy this book in good used condition, you'll still love it. No more searching trying to put days together, or books that don't even mention the Old Testament prophecies. Some of the songs are archaic, but other than that, I love this book.
