I found this colorful book to be informative, engaging, and easy-to-use. The author's overview of Chinese New Year provides a good background for her description of significant Lunar New Year traditions. These customs include special food, lucky money, scrolls, candy, lanterns, and dragons. There is a nice presentation of the zodiac animals and chart of corresponding birthdate years. The author provides easy-to-follow instructions and simple templates to carry out the wide selection of craft projects and activities. I would highly recommend this book to elementary school teachers and families with elementary school age kids in helping to understand and celebrate Chinese New Year.

This book offers fun, cute and easy to reproduce crafts to supplement Chinese New Year events for the classroom or any other setting with young children. I especially appreciate the author's narrative on explaining the traditions and rituals associated with this annual holiday that is celebrated world-wide. We couldn't wait for the next Chinese New Year (Year of the Rooster -2005) so, my kids and I tried making the hexagonal candy boxes. The instructions are clearly written making it easy for both a seven y.o. and ten y.o to follow independently. My kids are now using their crafty boxes with lids to hold little items on their desks. "Celebrating Chinese New Year: An Activity Book" is a wonderful addition to any classroom, library, and Asian or multi-cultural book collection. I highly recommend for teachers/educators and parents.

An excellent resource for schools and groups that want to foster cultural understanding!

While working at a daycare, I was searching for ways to break up the monotony of winter for our school aged children. Celebrating the Chinese New Year seemed like an obvious choice except for one problem - I know very little about the Chinese New Year and Chinese culture. So, I went to Amazon after not being able to find any suitable references at the local book store. I found this book which had gotten pretty good reviews.

The book is a great reference with wonderful craft ideas. The children especially enjoyed making the drum noise makers.

I was disappointed by this book. Every year I host a chinese new year party and I am always looking for some more ideas so I ordered this book. I was hoping for an idea or two. There is not
much at all to this book just a couple of pages maybe 20 total. There is little "substance" to this book. I bought this book for $8.95. The price tag should have been $2.95. Live and learn I suppose.

I have purchased a number of books about Chinese new year
celebrations and customs, this one has excellent craft
ideas and is geared toward older children - a very nice
presentation with good information.

Easy read, interesting facts for any parent or pre-K, or elementary teacher to use in classroom lesson re: Chinese New Year. I shared this book with my son's OT, (Occupational Therapist), and she used some of the activities with her clients. We also shared this book with a group of moms at an Integrated Play Group, (Cross-aged peers, Typically Developing and Special Needs kids). Great book!

Bought to share with my 5 year old granddaughter who's preschool class was celebrating the Chinese New Year. She is not of Asian descent so it helped her to share a little in her classmate's family celebration. She enjoyed this book very much

fun, creative activity book. my children 5 and 7 loved all the crafts and activities in this book for celebrating chinese new year.

This activity book has many fun kids activities from simple coloring to making lanterns for bigger kids. It also has dates on when each zodiac sign falls under which makes it fun for adults as well. I used it at my son's school and the kids had fun with the activities and learning about the Chinese New Year
