My initial interest in this book was my personal working relationship with one of the authors and my admiration of the manner in which he conducts his life, professionally and personally. I quickly became so absorbed in this collection of personal writings that so adequately explained our spiritual connections to one another through Divine design from nine perspectives. The scientists have their Super String Theory and this, I believe, is the spiritual answer to that hypothesis. We are all connected like beads on a string and our sameness is the thread of what we know as life.

`Celebrating Divine Presence - Journeys into God' is a title suggesting deeply significant theological content yet this book is wonderfully easy to read. As a compilation of some of the presentations made by speakers at a symposium held in 2002 at Northern Arizona University (NAU) with several additional, original chapters, it brings together representatives of nine religions in a remarkable interfaith publication which, in spite of the breadth and depth of knowledge and wisdom found in each chapter, never leads the reader into theological complexities. The vitality of the spoken word is refreshingly preserved, enhanced by the openness of each author/speaker in revealing inner spiritual meanings through the practical workings of their daily lives.

The title of the original NAU event was `The Eastern Heritage Symposium: Beads on One String,' aimed to address questions such as `what is a Sufi?'; or `what is a Jain?' for example, or `does a Buddhist believe in God?' So readers of this book can search for personal testimonies that give some of the answers. Editor, author and overall producer Laurent Weichberger who organized the NAU event and who writes opening chapters on Listening and on Ancient Mysticism, declares himself a wholehearted follower of Avatar Meher Baba and describes the life experiences that brought him to recognize Meher Baba as his spiritual guide. He explains the Avatar status of this Persian-Indian holy man and also that no religion as such has been allowed to form around his manifestation. It was Meher Baba who said, in 1932, "I have come to revitalize all religions and bring them together like beads on one string." In a riveting final chapter, Weichberger draws the reader to an understanding of the meaning of the thread that runs through all the beads. SMcN.

This book celebrates the universality of the spiritual search. A diverse group of seekers writing about and therefore sharing wholeheartedly their personal journeys. An excellent, timely book for all who want to learn and open their hearts to the unity in humanity today.
