GREAT BOOK FOR ALL AGES,
By
This review is from: Celebrating the Great Mother: A Handbook of Earth-Honoring Activities for Parents and Children (Paperback)
I love this book! It has so many activities, ideas, crafts, and parental wisdom that I just had to have it in my home library! Many books tend to be for the pagan family with younger children, but this book also works with older kids too. We are an eclectic family and this book is written with a broad minded philosophy. It works as well for us as it would a more traditionally religious family that wants to add seasonal elements to their worship and home. It is a creative resource that I will be using for years to come. We have already made our dream pillows and they were a huge success with the teens as well as the little ones. Gotta have it!

..For the whole family!I was looking for a book the whole family would enjoy, no matter what religion you are. Pagan, Wiccan, Christian, Jewish...This book is it! Wonderful ideas for celebrating Nature and life all around us. All the items needed for the crafts are easy to find, or cheap to buy. Nothing complicated in the book. Great family projects you will soon make a tradition every Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall in your home!

This is a wonderful book for any earth loving parent who would like ideas for celebrating the seasons and respecting the earth with their family. It includes many crafts and activities to do with children of all ages, and would even make a great read if you are not a parent.

This is a very useful book for generating ideas for passing on your spiritual values and beliefs to your children. It can also be adapted for women's spirituality circles. There are many ideas for crafts and activities and suggestions for bringing the sacred into the everyday.

Wonderful Family Resource!,

This review is from: Celebrating the Great Mother: A Handbook of Earth-Honoring Activities for Parents and Children (Paperback)
As I was paging through looking for ideas to celebrate the summer solstice, I was prompted to finally write a review of this wonderful book! This book is a wonderful family resource. It is ripe with good ideas and lots of them--I find there is such a wealth of ideas that it is easy to pick and choose just a couple to use for each holiday and when you refer to the book again it is like it is brand new (because you didn't use up all the ideas the first time). I like how it lays out a family guide to each holiday, complete with food suggestions, activities, etc. When I first bought this book, I tried to incorporate everything at once and then realized that selecting a few elements works the best for our family and we enjoy the activities more when we take plenty of time for them.
I have noticed with other "alternative" celebration books, a heavy focus on Wicca. We are not Wiccan and so there was a lack of "click" with the other books. I appreciate the Earth centered spirituality of this book, without the assumption that the readers are Wiccan. Also, the activities are all very reasonable and child friendly (though I would recommend the book to those without children as well)--I get very turned off by the long rituals and invocations of other celebration books (the whole not-clicking-with-the-Wicca-perspective thing, I guess). Anyway, I strongly recommend this book. I expect to use it as a resource for our family for many years to come (I bought it about two years ago, I think).

After several friends suggested this book I ordered it and was unable to put it down after opening the box it came in. It is a wonderful book for parents or anyone who works with or is around kids. It is easy to use and has wonderful ideas of celebrating the wheel of the year with kids. I think this is a must have for anyone who wants to raise children to be more connected to Mother Earth.Blessed be!

I think this book is terrific. I've enjoyed reading it myself and aloud to my husband and my children. Its overall message is uplifting and it is not judgmental in any way, no matter the reader's philosophical viewpoint. I highly recommend it to families hoping to make some sense out of today's world. I also recommend it to people of all ages without children! It's moving and it's fun!

A Beautiful Read!,

Most definately a book that will receive continuous attention from my family. Full of simple and enriching family celebrations that touch heart and soul and guide you to gentle living. The writing is skilled! Johnson and Shaw successfully balanced the need to keep it elementary while speaking to all reading levels.
A must for homes and schools. Makes a wonderful gift for pagans and non-pagans alike and deserves its place on the bookshelf next to your Bible, Koran, Book of Shadows, or whatever your spiritual source book may be.
