5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Treat
I love this book! From the moment I cracked the cover and continuing through every page turn, this book did not disappoint. The setting of the restored home was the perfect showplace for the seasonal decorations. Great ideas, photos, and inspiration. By far, my favorite home decorating book.

3.0 out of 5 stars great price
I'm certainly glad that I did not pay much more than the shipping cost of this book.Although I enjoyed looking at the farmhouse that the company owns and staged for the layout, the content itself, except for one or two ideas, was pretty much uslesss,to me.I also have found the company is not easy to contact or make suggestions of how to obtain their products (they are...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh/Creative Ideas for a Beautiful Old House., November 3, 2005
This review is from: Celebrating Home: Decorating for the Holidays and Seasons (Seasons of Cannon Falls) (Hardcover)
Midwest of Cannon Falls (Minnesota) (...) is a company built around holiday and seasonal decorations. They produced this book to illustrate what can be done in the way of decorating a home to show its best during each of the four seasons, during many of the holidays we celebrate.

Part of the magic about this book is the house used as the background for the decorations. It's a beautiful house, beautifully restored. One thing you have to thank the folk there for doing is saving this house that had been abandoned and was scheduled for demolition. They then moved the house to their location and did a great restoration job.

The rest of the book is a set of delightful picture ideas. While it's unlikely you would ever duplicate it exactly, the ideas in the book are fresh and creative. Now all that you need is a nice old house like River House.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!, August 11, 2006
This review is from: Celebrating Home: Decorating for the Holidays and Seasons (Seasons of Cannon Falls) (Hardcover)
Inspiration abounds in this book~I love how it features the same rooms, accessorized differently for the seasons. That is my favorite way to decorate~
Also, if you love old homes and restoration, this book provides inspiration for that as well. Wonderful! And the chandeliers, oohlala!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bright and Inspiring; A Reminder of a Simpler Time, March 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is a good source of inspiration for pretty things to do with your home, and little ways to spruce it up for the seasons or a holiday. The style of this book is more traditional, old-fashioned, somewhat Victorian, which I really like. If you decorate your house the way they do in the book, I think you'll come away with a really classy-looking result. If I could change one thing about this book, I would tell the creator(s) that I would like actual recipes in the book, which I think would really make it real to readers. I never really think this type of book is completely useful to me until I can cook from it. They list sugar cookies in one of the chapter headings, but don't give a recipe. I am a very sad panda. :(
Anyway, I took one star away for that reason, since they pictured these delicious-looking foods and listed no recipes. Also, don't expect projects listed with instructions, there aren't really any, just tips and little ideas, which you might enjoy...little ways to make home more homier. -This book is largely based on visuals.
I have been a fan of their brand (Midwest of Cannon Falls/Seasons of Cannon Falls) for about 10 years now, and their items are often elegant-looking, beautiful, eye-pleasing and useful, and I often hunger to find new items they have for sale. I saw a clever turkey tureen in this book that I actually own. Search online, I say! But I digress.
If you like old-fashioned stuff, like your Grandmother or Great Aunt might have had at her house when you visited, then this is your aesthetic, and just looking at this book will be a joy. I found several decor ideas, which I will definitely employ when the season is upon me. There are about 143 pages in the book, and greedily, I always want more. The photography is beautiful, and you can almost hear a lawn-mower and smell freshly-cut grass in the background. I will buy any books this company publishes, so I guess that says it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Done!, July 9, 2008
This review is from: Celebrating Home: Decorating for the Holidays and Seasons (Seasons of Cannon Falls) (Hardcover)
This is a lovely book. If you are looking for a "how-to" decorate for different holidays book that is full of instructions, this is NOT the book for you. The photography in this book makes it pretty enough to be a coffee table book, though there is nothing new nor especially innovative in the way of decorating. Perhaps it will inspire you to look at your own things in a new light and ultimately create seasonal displays that you and your family will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Inspiring!, March 12, 2008
From the moment I opened this book I knew I would love it! It's so full of beautiful inspiration and the writing is lovely. If you're expecting a book chalk full of projects and ideas, you won't find it here. This is more about the photography and how to integrate the Cannon Falls style into your home. I just love how it features different looks for each season and tells you why each look works. I could read and go through this book over and over again. LOVE IT!!

Certainly NOT worth the initial full price of the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, March 27, 2007

I thought about buying this book for months. I expected sophisticaed and unique projects which would excite me but did not find them. The projects are basic. Yes, the house is very beautiful and shows well. If you are interested in a decorating book this may be for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment, January 31, 2008

I was very disappointed with this book. There are only a handful of interesting pictures - no really new ideas - just lots of wasted shots on the photographer's part. Yes, the house is nice. But, unless you have this much space, rooms this large and this type of architecture, you'll not be able to use 75% of even these tired decorating suggestions.
