Book Description

October 1, 2002 Capital Cares
Finally, a book of hope for singles of all ages, but particularly those late-blooming Baby Boomers. Celebrating Single gives readers a look at the sometimes painful, sometimes joyful truths about love. Packed with powerful personal stories of real Baby Boomers (single men and women 35 to 53 years old), this inspiring book teaches you how to nurture and forgive yourself, and achieve the most enduring relationship of a lifetime - the love of self. The book is a blend of real-life stories with the advice of relationship experts who have helped many single people untangle the knots of confusion, loneliness, self-doubt and anger. The authors, two single Baby Boomers themselves, also sprinkle in their own personal insights and experiences. Celebrating Single shows singles how to find inner peace and love, and thrive on time spent alone. As Oscar Wilde once said, "to love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance." This book goes where few others have dared--it tells you how to live alone, and like it; to move on from dependence on romance, to dependence on self. And if and when you find love, it will be stronger because it is not based on need.

Wow! What a great book! I read it in a flash. It flows beautifully and the stories and poems are interesting and helpful. It even had some good suggestions for an old guy like me. I liked the conversational style with just the right amount of humor and kidding back and forth between the two authors. Their unusual writeing style was very effective and added to the enjoyment of the book. After reading the book Joan & Marc seem like my close friends.

Fianlly there is a realistic book about being single that is worth reading. Marc and Joan share their different voices in concert resulting in a book filled with spirit, knowledge, honesty and humor. It can make a mother proud enough to stop pushing marriage when it isn't in the cards. Highly reccommend.

As a 26 year old, unmarried WASP with the perfect older sister who is married to the perfect guy with the perfect new baby, I thought I was flawed. Recently, I picked this book up at my local bookstore, and I could not put it down. It is not a schlocky, cheesy self help book. It is a confidence builder. It is a teaching tool. Best yet, "Celebrating Single" gives you the permission to be happy with being single. Buy this book for yourself and all of your single friends!
