My 5 1/2 month old son has been captivated with this video since he was 2 1/2 months old. This is the only video that he will watch through it's entirety. The video begins with brightly colored fireworks going off on a black background with classical music playing. It then moves through 6 different colors. The colors are introduced by letters spelling the color and then paint cans tip over, pouring the color onto the TV screen. Each color has a set/series of objects and shapes that begin to fill the screen and dance around to classical music. It's a must have for those collicky babies!

We bought this video after seeing the preview for it on the first BabyScapes (Baby's Smart Start) video. Our son was about 8 months old (which is the recommended starting age) and he loved it immediately. We have photos of him trying to catch the shapes flying about on the television screen!
This is one of those videos that lets the parent decide whether to plop the child down in front the CRT babysitter in order to get some work done (which I'll confess we've done now and again...and it will work sometimes...) or to use the video to make learning fun.
Learning in this case is about colors: Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Purple and Orange. We play with blue toys during the Blue segment, red toys during the Red segment and so on. It can be fun for the adult, too. Try making up words to go along with Ode To Joy, for instance...("Birdies, birdies, see the birdies! Birdies, birdies, love to fly...")
The video begins with a nifty fireworks display and a rousing rendition of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3. Then, buckets of paint, either singly or in combination, are flung at the screen and shapes dance around to classical tunes by Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms (not the Lullaby!), more Bach and Boccherini.
Overall, I prefer the BabyScapes videos to the Baby Einstein ones. Our son gets more excited about the BabyScapes videos than he does the plethora of Baby Einstein DVDs we have. The music quality is better than what you'd hear on the Baby Einstein videos/DVDs, in my opinion, and the clean, organized presentation is just easier to watch. With most of the Baby Einstein DVDs I feel like "give me some toys and a video camera and I could do this - and better"; I respect the skill and imagination of the 3D graphic artists who put together the BabyScapes videos.

I just noticed the review that said that this video is not appropriate for children under three and I have to completely disagree. I have a 6 month old, a two year old and a four year old and this is the only video I have ever found (including Baby Mozart, So Smart) that all three of my kids will watch together. It is amazing. I would strongly recommend it to anyone with a child between the ages of 6 months & 4 years.

I bought this video for my daughter when she was born. She watched it for the first time at about two months of age, and certain colors held her attention, but others did not. Now, at 6 months of age, the entire tape enthralls her... she shakes her hands in excitement and talks to the screen, and from the beginning of the video to the end, she is completely entranced, allowing me to *finally* get some things done! On some days, it will even hold her attention twice through, and _nothing_ does that. I highly recommend this tape!

AFTER MY BABY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE FIRST BABY SCAPES VIDEO I PURCHASED THE SECOND ONE, CELEBRATION OF COLOR. TO MY SURPRISE IT WAS EQUALLY AS ENTERTAINING. THEY ARE THE ONLY VIDEOS THAT SHE WILL WATCH FOR THE FULL VIDEO. WHEN SHE HEARS THE MUSIC START SHE IMMEDIATLY STARTS TO DANCE. WATCHING HER HAVE SUCH JOY BRINGS ME JOY. AND I CAN FINALLY GET MY DINNER MADE BEFORE 8:00. SHE ALSO ENJOYS THEIR THIRD VIDEO, MIRACLE OF MOZART.

This video is great for small babies. It has great classical music - the kind they say is good for the baby's mind. My baby loved sitting in his bouncer seat and watching. He would watch all 30 minutes without a problem. This gives a new parent a valuable opportunity to catch a few extra winks of sleep on the couch next to baby!
This video is now one of my number 1 baby shower gifts to give.
