4.0 out of 5 stars Happy, light-hearted album for flute fans, June 9, 2011

This review is from: Celebration for Flute & Orchestra (Audio CD)
This is a truly happy, feel-good album of lighter works for flute and orchestra, which flutist William Bennett designed as an homage to one of his teachers, the great French flutist Marcel Moyse (1889-1984). Even the cover sketch is Bennett's own, of his teacher. Bennett is exemplary in all the works, and the English Chamber Orchestra and conductor Steuart Bedford provide fine support. The overall sound of the album, for lack of a better word, is "extrovert", if that makes sense, in spirit, but not in the sense of relentless cheeriness. But even when the spirit of the music gets a little melancholy, it never feels sad. Listening to the entire album all at once is probably not a good idea, but dipping into pieces individually will provide much delight.
