Book Description

October 30, 2009
With international clients recognising diverse religious observations, an increasing number of festivals, celebrations, and holidays are appearing on the calendar, and designers are being commissioned to communicate celebration greetings to audiences worldwide. "Celebration Graphics Sourcebook" presents innovative case studies from across all media, budgets, and cultures. As celebrations are a time for fun, these solutions are also some of the most exuberant and beguiling graphic solutions in contemporary design. Examples featured come from a wide range of seasonal holidays, non-religious celebrations, weddings, naming ceremonies, and birthday celebrations, among others. Celebrations are arranged month by month, interspersed with weddings, birthdays, Name Days, Bar Mitzvahs, and other life-marking events. An extensive resources section lists religious observations in every major religion, as well as dates, colour palettes, iconography, symbols, phrases, and ceremonies.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good number of festivals but limited examples for each, August 24, 2010
This review is from: Celebration Graphics Sourcebook (Paperback)
Length:: 0:45 Mins

The good thing about this book is the number of festivals covered. Unfortunately, that's also the bad thing since the examples featured for each festival is really limited. There are lots of different graphic styles which are quite nice, but just when you want to see more, you're next page on a new festival.

The text talks much on the festivals but not on graphic design side like associated colours, symbols. At times, I felt like I was reading a book on festivals rather than graphic design on festivals.

Hopefully, if there's another volume of festive graphics, a few can be singled out for more focus with more graphics, like the big ones - Christmas, Chinese New Year, weddings, birthdays...

By the way, this book has two different publishers (Rockport Publishers and RotoVision) so the covers may look different.
