A Celebration of Light:Painting the Textures of Light in Watercolor is a must read for all watercolor artists who want to better their understanding and application of an often tricky medium. Jane Freeman expertly describes her painting technique and beautifully guides one through her glazing process and color usage with step by step illustrations. Her award winning paintings, as well as informative contributions from other famous artists are displayed throughout making this one, (if not THE) most valuable watercolor book in my library!

A Celebration of Light is a wonderful book - there are so many many infos in this book which you should not miss. Jane Freeman shares her technique, shows her colours and how to use and mix them, how to work the best with your reference photos, gives tips about composition and she also shows many paintings in step-by-step-demonstrations. She has a great knowledge about watercolor and this book is a very valuable addition to each library.

I purchased this book hoping for a clearer description on how to capture light in watercolor paintings. This book met all my expectations. I keep it in the classroom and studio for my students to use as a reference. Jane Freeman has easily understandable step-by-step demonstrations, goes through the process of how to paint reflections, glass, lace and beautiful light patterns. She has included a wealth of information for all levels of painters. An added bonus is the addition of paintings and comments from numerous watercolorists whose paintings are seen in many competitions. I recommend this book to anyone who teaches the art of watercolor and encourage them to expose their students to it. It is a wonderful addition to an artist's library.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn the techniques that this artist has perfected over the years. Jane Freeman leads the reader step by step from the beginning of a painting until it is finished. She tells you how to paint such things as reflections and lace plus she she even gives you tips on mixing colors and finding time to do the art. This is at the top of the list as one of my favorite art books.

Excellent book, the artist certainly knows how to get the best light out of her paintings. Helpful on all levels. Her textures are amazing.

This is an excellent art instruction book that shows techniques of painting light into watercolor paintings. There are many helpful samples of watercolor artwork.

Because this book has been such a favorite; I'm actually taking the time to promote it. The glazing technique is beautifully exhibited on pg.59 showing layers of pigment on labeled swatches.
A high-quality book featuring other artist's interesting and helpful commentary. On pg.60 there is information especially helpful about underwash and layering transparent pigments. Many beautiful demonstrations of crystal, lace, floral, fruit etc. all with lots of wonderful color and LIGHT. Her palette choices are so informative. I've had this book for over a year and have it always accessible.

Jane Freeman's book is a wonderful source of information whether you want to learn more about the glazing technique or just want to forward your knowledge of watercolor painting. I particularily noticed the throughness of her information. You are not left wondering, "Now how did she do that?". Each chapter leads you progressively towards the final and you can't wait to pick up that brush and start painting.
