Book Description

September 10, 2007
A Celebration of Salmon Rivers is devoted to the Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar, and the magnificent rivers it inhabits. The book depicts more than 50 of the finest Atlantic salmon rivers, each described by those familiar with it and committed to maintaining and preserving it. Here in one book are all the salmon rivers fly fishermen dream of fishing--the Alta, the Laerdal, the Spey, the Dee, the Moy, the Big Laxa, the Ponoi, the Kharlovka, and the great rivers of Canada. No other book has come close to capturing so many wonderful rivers, many of which are remote and exclusive and have never been seen in published photographs.

About the Author

The North Atlantic Salmon Fund (NASF) was founded in 1989 by Orri Vigfússon when wild salmon from rivers on both sides of the Atlantic were in dangerous decline. Since then the organization has raised nearly $30 million to buy out netting rights and excessive exploitation so that future generations will know and appreciate the beauty and strength of the wild Atlantic salmon. R. Randolph Ashton lives in Ketchum, Idaho.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Survey of Great Salmon Rivers, February 18, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Celebration of Salmon Rivers: The World's Finest Atlantic Salmon Rivers (Hardcover)
This is a very well-done book on great salmon rivers of the world. Many of the profiles of the rivers are written by famous individuals with a connection to one of the rivers. While the pieces are well-written, they are hardly information packed or even... It's not a guidebook, but a book that "celebrates" Atlantic Salmon Rivers. Worth adding to you Salmon Foshing Collection.......

5.0 out of 5 stars Help Wild Atlantic Salmon Survive!, January 18, 2008
This review is from: A Celebration of Salmon Rivers: The World's Finest Atlantic Salmon Rivers (Hardcover)
Although I do not profit from the sale of this historic book, I had one incredible adventure after another while working on this project. It's crazy for me to think that I have been to more Atlantic Salmon Rivers than anyone else in the world. Each river was absolutely stunning! I hope I have done justice to the many beautiful areas of the world I was so fortunate to visit and photograph.

The writing in the book is spectacular. A number of famous authors contributed pieces such as Thomas McGuane, Paul Volker, Pelle Klippinge and the list goes on.

A Celebration of Salmon Rivers is about the famous Atlantic salmon fish and the even more famous rivers they inhabit.

I photographed over 60 rivers during a two-year span. It was a dream come true and I thank Orri Vigfusson, Chairman of the NASF for another incredible opportunity to show my work. Please help Orri and the NASF save wild Atlantic salmon with the purchase of this incredible collection of work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, unless you really love one of these rivers., January 13, 2008

This review is from: A Celebration of Salmon Rivers: The World's Finest Atlantic Salmon Rivers (Hardcover)
I gave this book as a gift to a friend who has fished the rivers in Russia. While I didn't have time to read the copy, I did look through all the photographs. Frankly, they were a little disappointing. Many seemed like little more than snapshots, underexposed or muddy. That being said, my friend was delighted to find his own river in the book, although he laughed that all the descriptions said that all the rivers were "the best fishing in the world."
