Fabulous cookbook - complete meals for special occasions,
By A Customer
This review is from: Celebrations: Sumptuous Meals for Festive Occasions (Hardcover)
I have come to rely on this cookbook as my absolute favorite when a special occasion arises. The menu is set, with suggestions for alternatives, and a schedule as to how to accomplish the entire preparation with a minimal hassle. Ingredients a fairly sophisticated without involving an extensive list of hard-to-find exotica. Flavor combinations are superb, and instructions clear and concise. I have given this book to two daughters and a sister-in-law (an excellent cook in her own right), and now need two more copies for new daughters-in-law. Enough said!

This review is from: Celebrations: Sumptuous Meals for Festive Occasions (Hardcover)
This cookbook celebrates the upscale recipes of twentieth century holidays. If offers a good number of presentation photographs, targeting very formal banquet meals. They're heavy on butter, sugar, starches, and pretentious protein dishes, though some respectable vegetable recipes are thrown in.This book book isn't my favorite because it's a little hard to work from. The small print and italicized ingredient decks are hard to read. The 3 column format means sentences are continued from line to line after 6 to 8 words. Still, it contains about two dozen respectable recipes, so I rate it three stars compared to its competition. |
