Celebrations at Thrush Green,
By KMS (NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Celebrations at Thrush Green (Thrush Green Series #11) (Paperback)
I recently discovered Thrush Green and have become immersed in the local life. Celebrations follows the town folk as they get ready to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the opening of their local school as well as the anniversary of a mission school started by one of Thrush Green's native sons. Miss Read's books deliver comfort and charm and Celebrations is no exception. The one thing I've noticed with her Thrush Green series is the way the author aged, or didn't age the characters. She started the series in the 1960's and completed it in the 1990's. Some characters have aged appropriately (Nathanial Patten's grand-daughter) and others (Paul Young, son of Joan and Edward) are not much older than when the series first started. Obviously it's much too late now, but I think it would have been better for continuity had the author kept the series in the 1960's. It's a minor annoyance and not enough to keep me from enjoying the books.
