One of the consequences of the growth of the World Wide Web is that anyone can be published. It costs very little to have a personal blog and there are many sites that actively solicit contributions in a specific area. However, if it is not done right; one can spend a great deal of time and finger movements on a keyboard in attempting to make a name for themselves.
Friedman is the founder of a PR firm that specializes in turning the unknown into a known in the proper and necessary circles. Her advice in this book is fundamental and relatively inexpensive; most can be done with a computer and internet connection. Much of that advice is targeted at people that would like to publish a book and have it be known to the widest possible audience. As a heavy contributor of online material, I was aware of most of the techniques advocated by Friedman and found her advice to be accurate. Furthermore, there is very little in the way of outlandish hype; she is all business with little fluff. The only point of contention in that area is the suggestion in the title that all people can become a celebrity. It is more accurate to say, "become a celebrity within the audience of effectiveness for you."
If you have an idea for a book, want to make your expertise available to others or just have a profound thought or two that you would like to share, Friedman will show you how to do it.

I realize that some people will react negatively to the thought of becoming a "celebrity", as that often has a connotation of hype and falseness. But in Marsha Friedman's book Celebritize Yourself: The Three Step Method to Increase Your Visibility and Explode Your Business, she makes the argument that becoming a celebrity is simply the process of becoming the "name" in your field, the person that everyone thinks of and refers to when they talk about your area of interest. Reaching this level of visibility and reputation opens doors and gives you opportunities that you wouldn't otherwise get. Her method made a lot of sense to me, and gave me a lot of things to think about going forward.

Becoming a celebrity is all about branding yourself as an expert. Friedman shows that many people are quite competent at what they do, and they may even be the go-to person when others have questions. But that often doesn't extend beyond the company they work for or the business they run. As a whole, no one else knows about them. Why settle for that, when you can spread your message and influence to a wider audience if you have a passion for something?

There are countless number of people who are extremely talented in their chosen profession; they are experts in their field, performing their tasks with remarkable skill and grace. Some of these people have been able to parlay their unique skills into a rewarding career by harnessing the power of publicity to leverage their potential.

However, for the vast majority of people toiling in obscurity, their dreams are never quite fulfilled as they fail to stand out from the crowd. They really need to read this book.

Marsha Friedman is an expert in publicity, and has compiled this pragmatic guide for anyone to "celebritize" themselves; to create their own marketable "personal brand" designed to take their business or career to the next level. The process for making all this good stuff happen is straightforward and not all that difficult to implement. All that's required is a desire to succeed and a passion for excellence. Once the individual has found their "niche" - the thing they do better than just about anybody else - they're ready to begin the three step method geared towards increasing visibility, gaining notoriety, and ultimately "exploding" their business.

The first step Friedman advocates may sound a bit daunting to many - but let's face it - if you're going to be recognized as an "expert" in your profession, it would behoove you to write a book about it. As Friedman notes, there really is no better "business card" than your very own book; and becoming an "author" translates into instant star power credibility. It's almost a foolproof strategy for gaining acceptance from many possible naysayers; assuming your literary endeavor is well-written and compelling. But you're the expert; of course it's a great book!

"Celebritize Yourself" by Marsha Friedman is a unique business marketing book that provides a simple strategy and plan on how entrepreneurs can become celebrities in their field to promote their business or cause. By becoming a known and recognized expert in your field, you become a celebrity in that industry.

What is refreshing about this book is that Friedman teaches readers that being a celebrity goes beyond the Hollywood stereotype. Being a celebrity is not simply being superficially famous. It is about responsibly using that celebrity role to further the business and causes you believe in. It is about attaining credibility. One of her recommendations to attain credibility quickly is to become an author of a book. It is hard to disagree with her reasoning.

What separates this book from every other book I have read is that Friedman encourages readers to introspect into the reasons why they would want to become a celebrity, their expectations, and how they intend to use this role. Through this process, there is a realistic setting of expectations and a grounding process.

Friedman excellently makes the case of why entrepreneurs should aspire to be celebrities so that a greater mission and purpose can be better served, not simply for the fame itself. In her philosophy, becoming a responsible celebrity in your field is a respectable endeavor to achieve.

Overall, I found "Celebritize Yourself" an easy and pleasant read. It felt personal to allow my mind and feelings wander and explore the different possibilities. The book has strengthened my resolve to use the celebrity role as an additional professional credential and business marketing tool.

If you are an entrepreneur or marketer, do yourself a favor and read this ground-breaking book.
