Ok, but no Amana,

Don't expect this thing to chill a room-temp can down to icy cold. It uses something like the Peltier effect to cool a metal plate in the bottom of the container. It may be as simple as a large heat sink with a fan on the outside. This method is certainly not as efficient as a standard compressor-driven system, so it's not going to cause a revolution. The plate does get surprisingly cool to the touch though. The container itself is not insulated, just thin rigid plastic. And the fan is quiet but definitely noticeable, even in an office environment, certainly louder than my PC.
I suppose it is better than nothing, but really it's more about the "neat" factor than anything else. It can't replace an ice-filled Coleman cooler under the desk. Still, I like it.

OK, I'm sorry, but this just simply does not work. I got this for a gift, but after trying it was greatly disappointed. I laughed when I looked it up here on Amazon and saw the description... "w/in 5 minutes cools down to 47 degrees." Not even close.
At best, this will barely chill a can of pop...and that's after letting it sit overnight. It looks cool, but just does nothing to cool the pop. No, buy a cooler that actually works.
