ok maybe their singers voice isnt the prettiest cleaniest pitch perfect voice out there but it is full of so much raw emotion and passion that you cannot deny it. his voice and the lyrics take this cd past your normal screamo emo wahtever you want to call it record. i dont play any instruments so i dont know exactly how talented you have to be to play these guitar parts but hy all that matters is it sounds incredible and the drums are some of th best i have heard in this genre. the intro seems a little out of place i find myself skipping it sometimes but the rest of the cd is pure emo gold. sure they scream but not too much and its never out of place. the last track is amazing and has some of the best lyrics on the disc. pick this up you wont be disappointed.

The guys from New Jersey are on their way. I've seen The Escape Engine lives over 40 times by now, and everytime I see them they are better than the last time. Anyway onto the CD.
After an intro, the CD opens with an explosion with "Welcome To The Conversation" and "This Jagged Alibi". Two fast, agressive, energy-charged songs. After they pull you in, the sheer heartbreak of "The Six Month Accident", which is about never forgiving yourself for something you did, will be sure to get you hooked. After that "A Lesson In Futility", "The Curse (The Gift And..)" are two slow, dark songs, and are both highlights on this CD with particularly good drum and guitar work. After "Weapon of Choice" (a fan favorite which repeats the line "We've got the gun again"). Two more fast, poppier songs "Thoughts On Courage" and "Joining The Club" both provide you with the energy and exuberance The Escape Engine put on at every show. "Celebrity Role Model" closes on a particularly high note with the title track. A slow, beautiful closer, and a standout lyrically. Overall, this CD will take you on a great ride of emotion. Its great for blasting in your car on stuck in traffic on the highway. While it is influenced by Jersey bands such as Thursday, it would be wrong to say that they sound a like. Best songs: "Welcome To The Conversation" "This Jagged Alibi" "The Curse (The Gift And..)" "A Lesson In Futility" "Weapon Of Choice" Buy it now. This band is up and coming.

This album is awesome. I heard one of their songs on CMJ Music Monthly CD and couldn't beleive it. 100 times better than the songs usually on those things. So I downloaded another song from their website, and was convinced I had to have the CD. The music is very creative, not plain old straight 4/4 rock. Every player on the record does good work, especially the drummer. Great arangements, changes, breakdowns, etc. The vocals are great also. I read a review somewhere else that complained about how he can't cary a note, but I find his vocals to be great to sing along with. Sometimes the guy makes me want to scream, sometimes cry, sometimes both. I played it for a friend of mine, and she immediately pulled out Thursday and said I'd like that too. I do. I can't decide which one to call my favorite band of the moment. Both from NJ. Must be something in the water. (did I mention the word "great" enough? I'm not sure I did) |
