'Never discuss religion or politics' - a wise old adage that should be adhered to in the workplace, in places where alcohol is consumed, and by celebutards. Unfortunately during the election year of 2008 many entertainers opted to use their lime-light opportunities to spout their political opinions, operating under some misguided notion that regular folks need to be told by the Hollywood Elite what to think. Much of what they said was condescending, insulting, and offensive. I found it curious that people who make their living in such a competitive field, a field with a shelf life, a field wherein the product is a luxury item that is easily cut from a family budget during rough times, could be so utterly stupid. As the weeks went on a growing list of formerly admired entertainers was being compiled in my mind - a list of celebutards who would no longer be the recipient of my entertainment monetary and time allotment. That brings us to Andrea Peyser's incredible book. As a discriminating consumer, my money and time was well spent on this witty, timely, thoroughly enjoyable narrative. I laughed (out loud and often); I cried (blessed confirmation that I was not alone in this); and most important - I was entertained !!! As an aside: During the last couple of weeks it seems the entertainment center has shifted from Hollywood to D.C., what with the daily installments of drama and comedic flair. It's called irony.

Melting the Golden Calfs,
By firebrand (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Celebutards (Hardcover)
While I may agree with some of the political positions taken by some of the "celebutards" that Ms, Pyser skewers so brilliantly--the underlying reality that she so deftly exposes is the need of the consuming public to take them any more seriously then their neighbors or friends.
The argument that entertainers have as much right to free speech as anyone else turns stale when "speech" is a commodity to be purchased by fame money and access to constant media outlets. Celebrities have become the golden calfs of the current age... Andrea Pyser has done a great job of beginning to melt them down. mhholly

Peyser Nails It!,
This review is from: Celebutards (Hardcover)
Andrea Peyser knocks one out of the ballpark with CELEBUTARDS. She skillfully skewers the self-important Hollywood crowd like Sean Penn, George Clooney, and Brangelina and exposes them for the phony, self-serving nitwits that they really are. Highly recommended.

Read this book and learn,

Hollywood and Washington have become almost interchangeable as people trade their celebrity and lose their morals in the race to be famous, or just get a decent table at the club du jour.. Andrea Peyser is at her best when devouring the celebrated, insanely dumb people who feed off and use trusting citizens. Read this book and learn. Vote. Leave the house. Don't listen to Rosie O'Donnell or Madonna or Michael Moore. This book makes a heck of a lot of sense.

I really enjoyed this book. I was able to read it in about 2 days. Nice little chapters and funny side thoughts. I think she could have dropped some celebs to focus on others but you can't ahve everything.

This book is a great look into the double speak of certain celebs that really don't know what they are talking about when it comes to politics and world policies. Sean Penn holds up Hugo Chevez as a hero like figure, yet in Hugo's world there is no free speech and gay rights are non existent, in fact gays are persecuted, so what does Sean really believe? Al Gore and Mike Moore are just unfathomably liars, to put it mildly. Liberals without an open mind will not like this book, but it makes some very good points, but conservatives might find some issues with it as well. One more issue, M. Moore continues to harp on the fact that health care in some European countries and other socialist leaning countries is free, but the truth is that citizens of these progressive societies pay up to 70% in taxes, thereby making health care way more expensive then in a free market society.

The Biggest Losers,
By MacUser "MacMan" (New York, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Celebutards (Hardcover)
In this age in which celebrities are the main topic of journalism, Peyser shows the hypocrisy of having them stand on their soap boxes. In a democratic society, everyone has free speech, thank goodness there is someone to challenge the moronic comments by individuals that the masses look up to.
Hey, I used to be a fan of Bruce Springsteen. Until I heard him speak and not sing.

I'm continually astounded by the heinous habit that leftists have of lying about conservatives. There's no "hate" or "rant" here. There's nothing offensive about these pages. Mrs. Peyser merely describes and commemorates what dumb celebrities say. If celebrities want to be worshipped by the populace then they should be advised to keep their shallow and goofy mouths shut. There are 34 chapters here but several more individuals than the ones they center upon are discussed. Particularly enjoyable was the section on Oprah Winfrey. That her real color is "green" is something that most journalists refuse to clarify. A great thing about this book is that Peyser supplies short bios of her subjects. This adds texture and perspective for the idiotic things they say. We should all be grateful to this author. A great many celebrities are complete ignoramuses. They shouldn't be talking about politics in the first place. When they do so it is our right, and responsibility, to reproduce what they say and all have a good laugh at their expense. Mrs. Peyser's work doesn't offer a great deal of independent analysis but it certainly provides wondrous entertainment for readers.

Celebutards,

Andrea Peyser is one who can be counted on to tell it like it is. From her insightful columns in the New York Post to this hard hitting but still very funny book, she never misses a beat. I've loved her for years.

I liked the way she laid it out, spot lighting each individual person. The author really knew her facts about each Celebutard. I liked the fact that she knew some of the people personally. I totally agreed with what she had to say. Everyone must read this book. I don't go to the movies because I don't want to support these people.
