Originally self-published to critical acclaim, The Celestial Bar is the powerful story of Jonathan "Digger " Taylor, a man who -- like so many of us -- wanders from job to job, relationship to relationship, seeking the intangible "something" that is missing from his life. His spirited, but painful quest is offset by a dark predatory figure that haunts his dream and waking worlds.
Meditating before a crucial music audition, Digger takes refuge in The Celestial Bar, a way station for transitory souls. In this magical place, Digger meets a number of spiritual guides, including Paula, a beautiful waitress and soul mate to Digger. In the company of the wise inhabitants of this home-away-from-home, Digger begins to discover basic truths called Universal Principles: how simple changes in focus can powerfully shift our reality, that we are all beings of energy put on Earth to improve ourselves spiritually, and that we must balance the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual parts of ourselves in order to achieve true happiness.
Entertaining and insightful, The Celestial Bar will guide readers on a spiritual journey of self-discovery, taking them to the one place where the answers lie -- within themselves.

Excellent! Seekers of all kinds--this is a must read!,

This review is from: The Celestial Bar (Hardcover)
Youngholm creatively integrates an action packed fictional narrative with life enhancing and useful spiritual/universal principles and truths. The Celestial Bar has been compared to the Celestine Prophecy with good reason. His writing technique shows similarities to that great book, but Youngholm has his own insights to contribute to our society, which desperately needs the messages he so effectively presents in The Celestial Bar. This inspiring fictionalized tale is a joyfully enlightening read, and a necessary addition to every seeker's library of metaphysical works of art!

Cool story! This 195 page story is a fun read from 1994 and is a spiritual journey, where our hero is looking for answers as to why his life just doesn't work right. Through meditation, he visits a very special place. In the Celestial Bar, he finds the answers he is seeking, answers to a balanced life.
Full-time waiter/server and part-time piano player, Jonathan "Digger" Taylor comes from a past of failed relationships and failed business ventures. Digger longs to succeed in music, but he just can't quite get it right. He has a pretty lady interested in him, but he can't quite get into a relationship right now. What's a fellow to do? An Irish agent hooks Digger up with a piano audition at Warner Brothers Studio one day. While waiting in a luxurious dressing room, he decides to meditate only to side-step into something similar to a Twilight Zone experience, for those who remember the 1950s Sci-Fi series. He soon finds himself entering a bar like no other. "The Celestial Bar, food and spirits" takes him on a journey of understanding into the realms of energy and universal principles. While eating and drinking with those he knew before, from another time and place, he even finds his twin soul Paula. Lovers in other lives, he learns that he subconsciously compares every woman he knows to her, and no one can match up to the love he holds for her. From friends like Ahmay and Zorinthalian and over some Moon Tea, he learns/remembers much about energy movement and blockage, universal laws (and the Law of Attraction), oneness, duality, color meaning, and reincarnation. (A cool way to cover these concepts). Obviously, his life is not the same after that! A cute side note from your friendly Amazon reviewer: This book was suggested by a friend. I checked on Amazon and found an almost new copy for a penny! Who could resist! -- My penny got me an autographed copy, not made out to anyone in particular, and on the back, the price was lined through and "Love Offering" was written. I thought that was pretty cool.

What a delightful, simple, provoking gem of a book, and for all age groups. Looks like I was ready to find it! I would, however, only have given it 4 1/2 stars if such option was available. Having said that, I found The Celestial Bar to be engaging, informative, and, thankfully, not another book of techniques. There was a moment near the end when I really felt a strong emotional release, for which I was so appreciative. This book is an easy read, almost too easy; yet, lots of high quality "meat and potatoes"(or, whatever the comparable vegetarian version would be) are found in it's pages...a really strong base upon which to stand...concise and clear. I do so appreciate learning through the medium of a decent story, with a bit of adventure, especially when the central character reminds me of a younger version of myself. We should all be so fortunate to find such wonderful teachers as are found within the pages of this short book. Thank you Tom Youngholm!
