A Book Friday,
By "vigoleis" (Bonn Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Celestial Fortune Cookie (Paperback)
This truly is an amazing work, because it helps you to get even through bad days quite well. Only take serious what the quotation for you on every day is telling you and make it your guideline for the day. You will see that the quotation will adapt itself to your mood and to your problems. And it will help you to a certain vantage point from which you can look onto your life and see that there is more to life than just to live it. Every morning I wake up to Andrea Valeria's book and want to thank the author for having written it.

a book you can't live without,
By
This review is from: The Celestial Fortune Cookie (Paperback)
The Celestial Fortune Cookie is like having a little special treat everyday--a cookie without calories! The quotes for your sign each day give you nutritious and delicious food for thought so that you can approach each day a little wiser. If you love quote books, this is also a great book for you, because Ms. Valeria has culled thousands of quotes from hundreds of sources--some of them humorous, some of them wise, some obscure--but all of them appropriate to your sign (or the sign of a friend/loved one/colleague, etc.) so you have some personal guidance every day. Whether or not you believe in astrology, having a quote presented to you each day for meditation or contemplation is a gift you shouldn't deny yourself.

downright fun,

This review is from: The Celestial Fortune Cookie (Paperback)
I'm a skeptic--always have been. So why is it my toddlers seem to know all about God and ghosts, and recognize churches everywhere, even those housed in plain, unmarked architecture? And why was I drawn to this book? Could it be that there actually is something MORE to life? I still doubt it (but I'm beginning to have my doubts about that, too).Of course, the immediate appeal of The Celestial Fortune Cookie was the amazing collection of quotations, one for each day of the year for every sign! There are great bits of wisdom, philosophy, advice and humor from formidable (and approachable) thinkers past and present: Aristotle and Woody Allen, Wittgentstein and Gertrude Stein, Descartes, Thoreau, Rumi, Mae West and Sor Juana... Just about everyone imaginable is included. And these "daily doses" are not only truly thought-provoking, they're downright fun. Sometimes, I read on and on, unable to stop. And, against my will, I find myself drawn to the astrological aspects as well. The information is clearly presented, thoughtful, and (dare i admit it??) dead-on.There may be something to it after all... It's fascinating! So whether you're an astrology devotee, a literature lover, or a philosopher, there's something for you here -- especially if you actually enjoy food for thought, because there's plenty of that here, too. So, a tip to pure cynics and true believers alike, I think you'll like this book. It's a great find.

She Knows,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Celestial Fortune Cookie (Paperback)
I was reading Schopenhauer the other day as I was walking down the street. I passed a palm reader who asked me what I was reading. When I told her philosophy, she said, Let me read your palm, I know you're searching for something. I smiled and said, How did you know? Clever woman. There a lot of magicians and sorcerers out there; many, many, call themselves astrologers. There have probably been as many astrologers in the world since those two cats first saw something, there! as there are stars in the sky. But how do they know this stuff? And if they really do know, how do we who don't know know that they know? These mysterious-looking people who spend their time looking for you, there, in front of themselves, rather than at you, rather than really seeing you. Sure, they can see, they'll convince you, but only what they know the person in front of them wants them to see, only what the person in front of them wants to see. They throw a blanket over you and call it your coat. They're clever, sometimes, maybe, they know what you want to hear or how you want to hear it. Well, I found an astrologer who really can see - not just the stars and not just a chart (you and I can do that, with a bit of work) - Andrea Valeria. After reading her new book, Celestial Fortune Cookie, I got the feeling that, somehow, she knows, somehow she knows you and me. She knows, there! is the same thing as, here. She knows that it's not just about...there! up in the sky, sure, we can see it, too, but, like, anything else, it's what's behind the curtain that counts. And only those who see know what's behind that curtain. Just ask the Wizard of Oz. I got the sense from reading Celestial Fortune Cookie that the author knows that the moon and the sky and the bottom of the bayou are our nature. It's of a piece, and only someone who knows that is able to put together a book like this, burrowing, and borrowing from those who also know or knew. You see, they're the same thing, up there and down here. I'm still a skeptic, but I'm okay now. Buy this book, and you will be, too.

I love this book. I'm a skeptic, but I find myself looking forward to cracking it open each day to discover some new insight into my world. Every quote gives you something new to muse upon, particularly in how it relates to what may going on in your own life. Andrea Valeria is wise and witty and I highly recommend her book to anyone interested in enhancing their lives. It makes a wonderful gift too!

My husband and I run every morning to our coffee table to read our quote for the day in this fun book. Cancer and scorpio, we compare our daily quote over breakfast and set off on each day's great adventure thinking about the other's celestial fortune! Sometimes, we read it at night, and smile through the quote over the day we just had. We are thinking of giving a copy to each one of our good friends and sharing this wonderful game.

What a wise, witty, lyrical booK! I keep it by my desk so I can refer to the quotations throughout the day. This is a book not just for people who believe in astrology--you don't have to know a thing about astrology to appreciate the depth and scope of all these wonderful quotes. This is the kind of book I'll always treasure--and one I am buying for friends as gifts! Incredible!

Fortune cookie is a great way to classify this book...,

Fortune cookie is a great way to classify this book, it looks rather cutesy, like it might have something worth reading inside, you open it up and find a meaningless little line of jibberish that could apply to anyone anywhere any day of the week.
