Paul Miller, a former instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy, does the second lecture, in which he shows how to hold, adjust, read, and use a sextant to take a noon shot. He then goes on to do a sample shot, filling in each blank on the worksheet, and shows you step-by-step how to find your latitude and longitude anywhere in the world.

This particular program from Magic Lamp Productions is extremely popular, and has been used by teachers of this subject at yacht clubs, Coast Guard classes, schools, the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, and numerous other organizations around the entire world.

A good DVD for the begining navigator who wants to learn about the "noon shot". The first part goes over theory and calculations, with some humor thrown in. The second part goes into more depth with an actal situation and discusses sextant use, adjustment and care. With the info from this DVD one should be able to successfully take a "noon shot" of the sun and calculate where they are on earth.
