About the Brand

In 1969, 19-year-old Mo Siegel and his friend Wyck Hay found a bountiful harvest of wild herbs growing around Boulder, Colorado. With friends and wives helping, they picked the herbs and produced 500 pounds of their first blend, called MO's 36 Herb Tea. It was packaged in hand-sewn muslin bags and sold to a local health food store. Hay's brother, John, joined the partnership in 1971. The entrepreneurs set up shop in an old barn outside of Boulder, and they expanded their market to stores throughout Colorado, New Mexico, and the East Coast. The partners also began buying herbs rather than picking everything themselves, and the dream of a national herb tea company slowly began to materialize. This dream was reinforced when Red Zinger Herb Tea was introduced in January 1972 and was an immediate sensation. It remains one of the best-selling Celestial teas.

The company continued to grow and revolutionize the tea industry. Herb teas had previously been perceived as only of medicinal significance, but Celestial Seasonings introduced herb teas as flavorful, healthy beverages, virtually creating the modern tea industry. Celestial Seasonings solidified its sources for obtaining ingredients, such as hibiscus flowers and chamomile, by working closely with herb farmers from the Pacific Northwest to the exotic Far East. This forward thinking attracted the attention of food industry giant Kraft, Inc., which bought Celestial Seasonings in 1984. Kraft's guidance brought Celestial Seasonings to the attention of new consumers, further strengthening its lead in the herb tea industry while also introducing a gourmet line of traditional, or black, teas. In September 1988, Kraft sold Celestial Seasonings back to its management, returning the tea company to independent ownership. The company remains headquartered in Boulder, in the corporate facility on Sleepytime Drive.

The company, in 1991, experienced the exciting return of its original founder and leader, Mo Siegel, as chairman and chief executive officer. Since then, the company has expanded upon its herbal expertise bringing to market successful lines of Green, Wellness, Organic, and Chai teas. In 2000, Celestial joined forces with the Hain Food Group, maker of many top-selling natural foods brands. Today, serving more than 1.2 billion cups of tea per year, Celestial Seasonings is the largest herb tea manufacturer in North America and is expanding internationally at a rapid rate. Assured of Celestial Seasonings leadership position in the herb tea industry, Mo retired in September 2002 to fulfill another dream: to finish hiking the last set of 14,000-foot Colorado mountains he has yet to climb.

In cold weather, I drink a couple cups of herbal tea each day, which is pretty much the equivalent of drinking hot water with some flavor in it. (No calories, no caffeine, just a nice little warm glow.) I like all of these flavors, especially the Honey Vanilla Chamomile. Celestial Seasonings is pretty much my standard for herbal teas, they are not the most bold in the flavoring, nor are they what I would consider weak. And I do like the fact they don't have strings and paper tags on each bag, so I don't have to fish the tag out so it doesn't steep along with the bag.

Two factors kept me from giving this 5-stars. The first is the inclusion of Sleepytime. Some people may really like this flavor, and I do too, but for me it's a specialty tea you pull out before bed. You buy a whole box of this and keep it in your cabinet at home. I wanted these to have for work and home, and Sleepytime at work... just not for me. So I have to pull that envelope out and take it home. I know, the horrors. The second is the division of teas. There are 5 flavors and 18 tea bags. I mean, really? Would it be so cost-ineffective to put in two more bags and divide the flavors equally? But as it is, 2 flavors get 3 bags and 3 get 4. And I'm no different than anyone else, when there is unequal division, of course it hasn't been divided right. For example, one of the flavors that gets 4 bags? That's right, Sleepytime. Chamomile and Peppermint are also members of the 4 bag club. So my 2 favorites, the Lemon Zinger and the Honey Vanilla Chamomile? Yep, the 2 flavors that got shafted. I know, woe is me. Alas, it is the difference between a 4-star review and a 5-star review.

I love to drink this tea especially on a cold day after a long walk with the dog, or curled up in bed in the evening letting the soft smells and gentle taste roll over me. This comes in a multi-pack, so no more surprises that I am out and a trip to the store is in order, with a multitude of great teas to sample. As far as herbal teas go, you cannot do much better than these simple but timeless teas.

My 6-pack was slightly different from what was described. There was no Wild Berry Zinger (my favorite, darn). Instead, there was another chamomile--honey vanilla chamomile. I bought these herb teas to add to my green tea to make it drinkable. The chamomile doesn't have much flavor. But, Celestial Seasonings are fabulous teas, especially all the "zingers". Just didn't get quite what I wanted...

I'm somewhat disappointed the teabags are in little pouches of each flavor that cannot be resealed. After a couple weeks all the teas are picking up the odors and flavors of the other teas. Another reason I dislike the packaging is because nothing will prevent the tea from deteriorating over time being exposed to air and moisture.

Most of the teas are pretty tasty. The Peppermint is strong and gives that minty tingle when you drink it. Sleepytime is also good, a milder mint flavor than the peppermint with a hint of other undefinable flavors. My box did not have Wild Berry Zinger - it contained Honey Vanilla Chamomile instead. I found it to have a smooth, sweet taste but I wish it was just honey, vanilla, and chamomile without the other ingredients for a purer taste. Lemon Zinger is a bit strong for my tastes but that's my personal opinion; I'm sure many will like it. The surprise of the bunch was Chamomile. One of my favorite teas, it's always a safe choice when trying teas. However, this had a slightly 'off' flavor and smell I've never encountered with chamomile teas before. It isn't horrible but it just doesn't taste right to me. Still, this is a good variety and a great way to try out this brand of tea.

Well i bought mine from the grocery store but I just wanted to say that I had drank all the teas and they taste very good with lots of flavor. But what impressed me is that I totally forgot that I had those teas after I moved to my new apartment and going through my cabinets I found this box, a whole year later and the sleepytime bag was open. I drank one after brewing for 3 mins in the microwave and I remember sleeping so deep is pleasant. Im the type of people who have a hard time falling asleep. This relaxes my body and helps me fall asleep naturally. Better than melatonin. I also stay asleep and sleep very deep and sound, wake up feeling refreshed.

This stuff is good! Every flavor in Celestial Seasonings Herb Tea Sampler variety pack is a favorite for us, and with an assortment that this mix presents, you'll never have a chance to grow tired of any particular kind. I just re-stocked my stash by purchasing one lone box at a drug/convenience store, and now I'll know enough to come back to Amazon every time. This is also a thoughtful little gift any time of year for friends at a distance.

With company coming, you'll be able to have a little something special on hand for everyone!
