This review is from: Celestron 21047 70mm Powerseeker Telescope (Electronics)
I bought this scope for my nephew. I didn't buy it from Amazon. This is a very poor quality telescope. Celestron is one of the best selling telescope brands, but don't expect to get a semi-decent inexpensive scope as a result of high volume manufacturing. Celestron is an American company, but this scope is made in China. Some of their other products may be of high quality, but they should blush when you mention this one. I contacted Celestron customer support and they quickly rejected my request for a refund. They told me that sacrifices in quality have to be made to make the inexpensive scope..though, I don't remember that in the advertisements. At the lowest magnification (which I think is 45X) it's OK for looking at the moon, but you'd be much better off buying a portable spotting scope. Trying to steady and focus this long scope on the flimsy tripod is difficult. At high magnification, forget it. The rotating eyepiece feature is worthless. It's hard to rotate, so if you try to use it you knock the scope off of its target. You end up exchanging eyepieces in the same socket anyway. Search the internet for advice before you buy any telescope, there are helpful tutorials out there, but I'm not supposed to post them here. search for "Buying your first telescope" on altavista I upgraded this to 2 stars because 1.I should have known better and 2. the low power objective looks alright. |
