I replaced my older spotting scope with this Celestron Ultima 100 and I've found it to be an excellent all around telescope. The optics are sharp and the light gathering capabilities of the 100mm primary make it a fun scope for both wildlife and light backyard astronomy. Generally you get what you pay for in telescopes... but this is an excellent value for the money. The only caveat is that you will need a sturdy tripod as the scope is relatively heavy but once adjusted to the balance point (easily done) it handles just fine. One other thing... if you are 'height challenged' or plan on doing a bit more astronomical viewing then I would spring a little extra for the version with the angled eyepiece.

I searched the entire Amazon site for a scope to take to the rifle range. My criterion was that I wanted the best telescopic image at a moderate price. I noticed that many of the high priced premium brand scopes had mediocre or negative comments. I was especially impressed by the 10cm objective. The image is bright, sharp, and without distortion. There is a soft case that comes with this scope so you have to be careful in transportation. No regrets, highly recommended.

I bought this to use at the range and it should work very well for that I have used it on our acreage to watch deer and such so far, I'm very pleased with its capabilities. The thing you should know about this scope is it's very large and would not work well for hiking or packing in most cases. If it was smaller and a little more compact I would have given it 5 stars. Though it is rather large I think they have done a very good job designing the case with the removable eye piece and storage container for the eye piece.

I was a little hesitant about ordering this on line but it seemed that the 100mm objective lens and the brand name made it worth the gamble. I am very glad I did. The view is bright and clear from 22x through 44x. After that, the exit pupil gets a little small, as would be expected, making it dimmer and a little harder to zero in on the proper focus. It would be nice to have a finer focus available at those levels of magnification. However, when you get the focus dialed in, the image is good and crisp. It's winter so I haven't had a chance to observe any wildlife yet but am looking forward to it. Also looking forward to doing some astronomy observing. I think it will be a great companion to my 6 inch newtonian.
