Great performance and excellent value.

Still, this is a very nice pair of optics and I would recommend them to students or someone on a budget.

Not only are these binoculars compact and lightweight, but they are also very quick and easy to focus.

I'm not a hunter (I think these binoculars would be great for hunting though) but I do like to birdwatch and watch sports and these are the best binoculars I've ever had.

They are 8 power and the view is crystal clear, with very wide field of focus and also the ability to look at objects close up (6.5feet).

I love that they are lightweight - 23.1 ounces; are fully waterproof and because of being nitrogen purged are fogproof too. I've had problems in the past with cheaper binoculars fogging up on me.

Even though the blurb and the box say they are army green, they are so dark they are almost black in color.

They come with a premium back-ventilated harness to keep the weight from hanging from your neck and instead, being distributed to your shoulders and back.

They come with a nice wide neckstrap if you do want to use that and a very nice black carrying case with a front pocket and with a detachable shoulder strap and also with an area on the back that can be threaded on your belt. They also come with lens caps, and lens cloth. They say they come with a rainguard but I didn't find it.

The angular field of view is 8.1°. The linear field of view (at 1,000 yards) is 426 feet. The eye relief is 17mm. The lenses are fully multi-coated. There are a lot more specs that I don't understand but I just know these are the easiest to focus and use binoculars I've ever had.

The binoculars are made in China.

The Celestron TrailSeeker 8 x 42 Binoculars produce a bright, sharp image and are easy to focus. This is Celestron's mid-range line but the quality is very good; most any birdwatcher or hunter would be very pleased with these. They would also work well for observing sports or general use. They are fairly compact and light in weight and so even can be tucked in a purse to take to the opera.

The 8 x magnification is perfect for spotting wildlife and the 6.5 foot close focus allows observation of details when near. The 42 mm objectives extend their utility into early dawn and late dusk, prime times for birdwatching and hunting. The field of vision is also surprisingly wide at 8.1 degrees.

The 17 mm long eye relief and twist-up eyecups make them very adaptable to most people's vision. The prisms are BaK4 glass; all optics are fully-coated. Contrast and resolution are very good.

The waterproof case is made of magnesium alloy for strength and light weight and is nitrogen-filled to resist fogging; it will attach to a tripod. Strap, harness, case, and cleaning cloth are all included. There is a generous warranty on materials and workmanship.

Although it's been a while since I went out on a bird-watching expedition, quite often I see unusual birds right in my own back yard. Identifying certain species can be difficult when using my vintage binoculars. Big and unwieldy, these old binoculars served me for many years, but it's time for an upgrade. Celestron 71404 is that upgrade, and a happy upgrade it is.

Not only are these binoculars compact and lightweight, but they are also very quick and easy to focus. Once you have the focus correct for your eyes, the images are stunning! Colors are bright, images are sharp. Who could ask for more?

When you do go out on expedition, having a pair of binoculars thumping around on your body can frighten the very birds you're looking for. Celestron has taken care of this annoyance with an included chest cover, much like a baby's snuggy, that keeps your binoculars ready to use but also quiet and stable. I'll be sure to use this cover when I go out next time.

Only one thing puzzles me. These binoculars are black, the case is black, the chest cover is black, so what's Army Green?

If you're in the market for new binoculars, be sure to consider these. I'm delighted with mine.

FIVE STARS!

I have been using the Celestron TrailSeeker 8x42 for a few months now. I use them primarily for birding and bird watching, but watch other wildlife with them as well. They are lightweight and feel durable. The glass is astonishing for the price as well! In my opinion, they are, hands down, a better binocular than the Nikon Monarch and Eagle Optics Ranger. I've had others look through the TrailSeeker as well and concur with my previous statement. They work great in forest, field, and edge habitats. I haven't tried them out hawk watching yet, but I think they will work perfectly. The also do well in low light, foggy, and rainy conditions. What more do you need in a binocular? You can't beat this product for $240.
