Using accessories such as cameras, Lens Shades, Tele-Extenders and the 2" Diagonal will affect the balance of your Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. Counterweights restore proper balance, increasing ease in handling and improved tracking accuracy.You don't need perfect balance to operate your telescope. In fact, it's not always possible to achieve perfect balance with fixed-position weights. All you need to do is reduce, or eliminate, swing when R.A. and DEC locks are released. Celestron counterweights help you achieve the desired balance and stability with ease.

If you are using heavier designed eye pieces that weighs a pound or more, or doing astro-photography, and are using a short tube, you will need two of these weights. They screw on very securely. Very easy to adjust. I have always been happy with Celestron products and this one is no different.

This weight does exactly what it's supposed to do. It locks firmly in place with a non-marring, nylon-tipped set screw. The build quality is first rate and the finish is very attractive. The only downside, and it's a very small one, is that this weight is almost too heavy for my small, home-built refractor. If you want to use a Short Tube 80 on your CG-5, this weight will be way too heavy, but it will work great for an 8" SCT.
