4.0 out of 5 stars Performance of the Celestron 40mm Axiom Eyepiece, May 17, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Celestron Axiom Eyepiece 2" 40mm (Electronics)
This 2" barrel eyepiece from Celestron represents a moderately-priced alternative to ultra high-end offerings from other manufacturers. The generous 70-degree apparent field of view provides breathtaking views of star clusters and extended deep-sky objects. Tested in a Celestron C14 SCT operating at f/11 and at f/7. Also with a 17.5" f/4.5 Newtonian. Performs very well at f/6 and above. Below f/6, some sharpness is lost in the outer 15% of the field. Excellent value for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Wide Field Low Power Eyepiece!, April 2, 2006
This review is from: Celestron Axiom Eyepiece 2" 40mm (Electronics)
The 40mm Axiom offers a wide 70 degree apparent field of view. When this is combined with its long focal length of 40mm it offers about the widest field for telescope of say f/8 focal ratio. This eyepiece is very useful for starfields and open star clusters. With my f/8 120mm refractor I can see all of the Pleides Cluster at once and it is nicely framed. Also, the resolution of this eyepiece is very good.
