Product Description

Size: 10 x 50

They feature ED glass (low dispersion) in the optical design and they deliver edge-to-edge sharpness with excellent color correction & razor sharp images while virtually eliminating chromatic aberration, field curvature, and distortion. The Granite series uses a state-of-the-art modern open frame/hinge style which provides an excellent grip and is comfortable to handle (even single handed) with the reduced weight. The body is made of magnesium alloy which is lighter than aluminum but it is more rugged and tough for handling in any environment.

I am very happy to have made this choice and will highly recommend it.

The imaging is crisp, and the focusing easy to adjust, as well as the eye relief being sufficient for eyeglass wearers.

They are easy to operate, they provide a clear view, and they are very sturdy.

I first saw the Granite binoculars at the British BirdFair. I was very impressed and when I returned to the States I acquired a pair. I am an active birder and I love the Granites. They are not a true compact binocular but they are relatively small and light weight. The image is bright and clear all the way to the edge of the lenses. They have a wide field of view, over 400 ft, and a close focus distance of 6.5 feet - good for birders. Image quality and brightness very comparable to much more expensive brands, at least to my eyes.

As a retired NASA photographer I have used different binoculars for years. Recently my Celestron 7X56 binoculars had the outside surface of the binoculars crack and completely deteriorate. It was several years before I found the guarantee for them, a CELESTRON LIFE TIME WARRANTY!

I sent them to Celestron asking for a comparable pair of binoculars. They no longer manufacture the 7X56's. They sent me the Granite 10X50 binoculars and I was stunned. They cost almost three times what the original binoculars had cost and are literally light years ahead of the old binoculars. I have never seen a binocular that can touch them. Sharp as a tack from side to side and a brilliant field of view.

So keep in mind that you get a LIFE TIME GRARANTEE when you buy the Celestron brand.

First of all, I must state that I am particularly pleased with the great selection and the top class service from Amazon. I have been an Amazon customer for several years now and this is my very first review. Thanks to those who had sent in their reviews which had guided me in the past. I wish to contribute with my own first review. This is an exceptionally top class performer. It is light in weight, feels very good in the hands, top quality and the image is exceptionally good for its low price. I am very happy to have made this choice and will highly recommend it. I had evaluated this against the top brands of binoculars in the market for astronomy including those in the several thousand dollar price range but eventually settled for this not because it was inexpensive but because I was looking for the best and I had found it.

Size Name: 10x42 Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
As of now, Amazon cites a list price for the Celestron 10x42 Granite Binocular that is considerably higher than Celestron's list price, which can be found at Celestron's site. (Update, 10/15/13: See Alfalfa's comment below.) While this in no way reflects on the quality and value of the Granite, it might be of interest to someone considering buying it as a gift.

To give you a sense of the physical size of this binocular, with the interpupillary distance adjusted to the widest point, the lens and eyecup covers off and the eyecups twisted up, its footprint is roughly 5" wide x 5 ½" long. This, combined with its relatively light weight of 1.5 lbs. makes this binocular a convenient, easy to carry and handle size.

Using it on a tripod requires the Celestron Binocular Tripod Adapter for Roof and Porro Prism 93524, which has a thin support column that is a perfect match with the Granite. I cannot use my Celestron adapter #93520 (which came with my Celestron SkyMaster Giant 15x70 Binoculars) with the Granite because it has a fairly thick support column that makes it impossible to narrow the Granite's interpupillary distance from the widest point, which is too wide for me. (The Granite does not come with a tripod adapter.)

The 10x42 Granite is a high quality binocular, in a whole other league than the aforementioned Celestron SkyMaster, my Nikon Action 12x50 Binocular and my ancient Bushnell 7x35.

Size Name: 10x42 Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I have been a serious birder for several decades and have owned many pairs of binoculars including a few that have cost more than a thousand dollars. I currently use my Canon 12x36 Image Stabilization and my Leica 10x42 pairs the most. When I got a chance to own this pair I was a little concerned that they might not be something that I would want to carry with me, even as a back-up for my back-ups. Boy was I wrong!

Right out of the box I was impressed with the feel and design of these binoculars. The open bridge (pioneered by Swarovski in their very expensive EL series) allowed me to get a very comfortable and secure grip on the pair. The magnesium body felt light but solid. The rubberized finish was very good but not especially great. There is a tripod socket hidden on the front bridge; unscrew the cap and there is a socket that will attach the binos to a tripod using a separately available adapter. I adjusted the interocular distance and set the diopter to suit me and headed into the field the put the Celestrons to the test.

The use of ED glass in binoculars this affordable really impressed me. They provided me with incredible sharpness and very decent color saturation. Although I wear glasses I prefer to view through binoculars without them and the twist-up eyecups gave me a very comfortable view. The image is very bright and the field of view is what I expect from 10x42's (my favorite magnification and lens diameter combination for wildlife observation). The combination of the excellent multi-coating and the ED glass caused colors to stay in register (although I noticed just the tiniest bit of ghosting when looking at something bright red.
