The Celestron 71104 Outland LX 8 x 42 waterproof binoculars are built to withstand the elements. Great for boaters and hunters, but well-suited to any sport or nature activity in which you might face rain, sleet or fog, the Outland LX Waterproof Series takes Celestron's popular Outland series to an even higher performance level. The Outland LX features fully multi-coated optics, extreme near focus, and a four-element objective lens for ultra sharp focus across the field of view. With nitrogen-filled and sealed bodies and a protective rubber covering, all Outland LX models are waterproof as well as fog proof.

The Celestron 71104 features an 8x magnification and an objective lens diameter of 42 millimeters, giving it a 5.3-millimeter exit pupil. (The exit pupil size--the diameter of the objective lens divided by the magnification--determines the amount of light available to your eye. The larger the exit pupil, the brighter the image obtained will be. A three-millimeter exit pupil is generally sufficient for daytime use, five-millimeters is suitable for daytime and twilight, and seven-millimeters is generally necessary for maximum nighttime or astronomy use.) All Outland LX models also come with Celestron's No Fault Limited Lifetime Warranty.

After visiting two local stores to apply "hands on" to different binoculars, and after returning one pair, I took the better part of a day researching binoculars. My sister gave me the specs for her $300+ pair so I used that as a base. Her binoculars carry another brand name but were made by Celestron. Bottom line, I got them home, took them from the box and could see the birds in my yard with a minimum of adjustment. I have always had great difficulty in using binoculars and have always been frustrated when trying to buy a pair. I am extremely happy with these and the price is wonderful. The specs compare to much higher priced binoculars. I learned that my attempts to buy a light weight pair of binoculars was a mistake. The "42" in the 8 x 42 makes a big difference for field of view. Anyway, I am very satisified with my purchase!

Really a good set of binoculars! I got the pair for my wife who had trouble using a pair of more expensive binoculars, she immediately was more satisfied with these than the ones costing two and a half times what these did. Great wide strap makes you feel like there is nothing on your neck!! I am looking at Celestron's spotting scopes since these are so good.

I work at a bird viewing preserve and many of the "serious" birders have some very expensive binoculars. Several have checked out the Celestron bins and are amazed at the clarity and would recommend them to people who don't have a lot of money to spend on a good pair of bins. And the no fault, lifetime warranty doesn't hurt either.
