Product Description

SOLD

This eyepiece was displayed in our showroom showcase. It is in perfect condition.

The 25mm medium power X-Cel eyepiece is a 6-element fully multi-coated optical design, the X-Cel utilizes extra low dispersion (ED) glass on its most highly curved surfaces, to minimize chromatic aberration that can hinder sharp planetary views. With a wide 55 degree apparent field of view, and a large 25mm clear aperture the X-Cel is one of the most comfortable eyepieces to use.

Every X-Cel eyepiece is parfocal with each other, meaning little or no focusing is needed when changing from low to high power. The X-Cel comes with soft rubber eyecups and a durable plastic case. In addition, if you are an eyeglass wearer, you will enjoy the 20mm eye relief available on each of the X-Cel focal lengths. Threaded barrels accept 1-1/4" thread-in filters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice eyepiece, June 15, 2008

This review is from: Celestron X-CEL Series 1-1/4 25MM Eyepiece (Electronics)
I bought the 25mm X-Cel on ebay. I got it as a replacement for the cheaper 26mm Celestron no-name Plossl that came with my telescope. Compared to the generic Celestron 26mm, the X-Cel eyepiece is a huge improvement. The apparent field of view is dramatically wider, allowing me to watch planets for over twice as long before I need to adjust the scope. Also, the eye relief is exceptional. With the cheaper eyepieces, I needed to press my eye into the cup. With the X-Cel, I have my eye at a comfortable 2 cm distance and I get a huge view. This eyepiece also gives a noticeably sharper image than the cheaper Plossls. The X-Cel is also significantly larger and heavier than the generic Plossls. With a 55 degree FOV, it is a step up from Celestron's Omni series and significantly better than Celestron's generic Plossls, which come in their eyepiece kit and with their budget scopes. Having looked through Celestron's Ultima and Axiom eyepiece line, the X-Cel is not as bright or sharp at the same focal length, and does not have an ultra-wide FOV, but at one third the price, it seems to be the best value for the price of Celestron's eyepiece line. The X-Cel line is touted for lunar and planetary viewing, which are what I have used mine for. I have not try this eyepiece with deep space objects yet. I did notice some minor coma around the edges of this eyepiece in my f/5 130 mm Newtonian, but that was not unexpected. I tried it with my Celestron Ultima Barlow with excellent results. I plan to purchase more of the X-Cel eyepiece line, as it is by far the most comfortable eyepiece I own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-built eyepiece, June 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Celestron X-CEL Series 1-1/4 25MM Eyepiece (Electronics)
I bought this eyepiece to upgrade the cheap Kellner that came with my Celestron SLT 130 Nexstar. It is slightly sharper and brighter than the Kellner, and has generous eye relief as well as a wider field of view. It seems to have slightly more coma than the Kellner (about 25% of the outer fov)which I guess is to be expected with a fast F/5 scope and more glass in the lens. The eye relief is a little too much - considering that you cannot place your eye all the way into the cup because of the vignetting (kidney-beaning), howewer for eyeglass wearers (I wear glasses - but not while at the scope) the eye relief is perfect. I put on my glasses and folded down the eyecup and was able to see the entire fov without my glasses touching the eyepiece.
Now for the build quality. I was carrying my scope down the steps of my porch when this ep slid out of the focuser (forgot to tighten it down-will NEVER let that happen again!) and fell approximately 4 feet and landed on the third step from the bottom, bounced down the other 2 steps, landed on the concrete and rolled about 6 feet. With a sigh of disgust - I just knew I had ruined a week-old eyepiece! - I picked it up and looked at it and shook it, expecting glass to fall out. To my delight the only thing I could see was a slight nick on the chrome barrel where it had landed, and everything else seemed perfect! Not believing my luck, I hurriedly set up my scope and put the ep in and to my utmost disbelief - it worked perfectly!
For the price you cannot beat this eyepiece - they're not in the same class as a Hyperion - but at half the price you can't go wrong. I bought 3 more X-Cels to round out my collection.
