My home is in a virtual dead spot. Initially I was disappointed by the negligible increase in signal strength. I decided to see whether uncoiling the cable would help. As luck would have it I decided to anchor the antenna with a magnet to the outdoor grill so that it would uncoil as I moved away. The signal strength rose from about a half bar to four. I saw another review which describes excellent results after attaching to a storm door. Perhaps the door is metal as well and what we've both done is create large passive repeaters.

kind of disappointed March 16, 2007

I bought two of these. They arrived quickly and in good condition.

I mounted them on windows where I usually get two bars of signal on the outside, but one to none on the inside. The improvement is hardly noticeable, and you have to be right next to the window (within a foot of the antenna) to see a rare bump up to two bars, but usually one bar. Using the phone inside, even next to the window, is still unreliable, and impractical.

I guess I just have wait for my contract to end and change carriers. Another company has much better signal in our area.

not as pictured May 3, 2007
By M. Hook
Listen folks i know these things don't work that great. but my department demands these for all patrol cars, because they think it will help. who knows, there may be some benefit. I have noticed the cell phone is what makes the difference. my nokia works better on signal than my moto phone does. But one warning. this is not a coil type as pictured. i was a little disappointed at the Liegth - coil is shorter. but shipping was very fast from this vendor. this vendor did a great job at shipping out fast. 4 day turn around!

zero impact on signal strength
This "passive repeater' was a complete waste of time and money. It does absolutely nothing to improve signal strength. It's shameful that amazon markets such misleading products. Read more

Cell phone booster antenae
I live in a fringe area. I purchased this to help boost 3g reception. It has improved data transfer slightly and raised reception by two bars. Not bad for the money.
