5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent recording, September 16, 2000

This review is from: Cello Sonatas / 5 Intermezzi (Audio CD)
I find it surprising that this recording is so neglected. Piatigorsky's interpretation is romantic but not over the top or forced, some criticisms one might occassionally apply to the Ma/Ax recording. The first movement of the E minor sonata is breathtaking; Piatigorsky's sense of where the music is going is unerring. And having Rubinstein as your accompanist must be heaven. Piano and cello carry equal and equally eloquent voice in all tracks. The five solo tracks for piano are also satisfying.
