1.0 out of 5 stars A Waste of Money
I purchased this cd on the recommendation of the reviews already written. I beg to differ. I have heard better arrangements of Beatles tunes on elevators. The arrangements wavered between trite and downright maudlin. The tempos were dirge-like. The album was a complete bore.I know an 85 year old concert cellist who plays with verve, respect for the music, life,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well done, September 18, 2005
This review is from: Cello Submarine: Beatles Classics by the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic (Audio CD)
First of all, I LOVE the Beatles, and I LOVE Classical music. Personally I do not care how Amazon lists this CD.
That being said, I have played many arrangements of Beatles songs (mostly for string quartet) and they all leave something to be desired. These arrangements are bright, colorful and imaginative. Some of the songs have quite lengthy introductions that can have even the most devoted Beatles fan without liner notes in hand skipping forward to find out exactly what song they are listening to. I especially loved Norwegian Wood (I almost like it more than the real deal!). I have long been a fan of cello choirs, and for those who can't get enough cello this will be like a trip to heaven! If you like this CD, also try out the London Viola Sound

While I am sympathetic to the concerns of the other reviewers' issues with the song credits, with all due respoect to Beatlemanics, they can get a little carried away with Beatles trivia and forget that we're talking about MUSIC, something they neglected entirely. I found this CD to be filled with very creative arrangements, that were beautifully and flawlessly executed. This "Dandy Dozen" puts a spin on the Fab Four that takes them into a different dimension, artistically speaking, far from the dad-whistled muzak that another reviewer mistook it for. My only objection was that the recording quality was not the highest quality, and a little "noisy".

5.0 out of 5 stars Ah, the beuty of the cello:, June 3, 2006
This review is from: Cello Submarine: Beatles Classics by the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic (Audio CD)
Okay, I have no idea why people are judging this based purely on lablings: quite frankly, it should be about the music, and nothing else.

Now, with that said, I have to say this is one of the most beutiful arrangements for a Band I've ever heard. The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Phil have done a phenominal job at creating something amazing and new out of something amazing and old. I have to say that this is for any fan of the Beatles, classical music, and anything cello related. I'd deffinately suggest the buy, as the entire album is gorgeous.

Oh, and Cello Choirs are probobly the best string ensembles in existance (biased, yes: but that's okay, because cello deserves my bias)

This is a great CD that fully lived up to my expectations, and maybe even exceeded them. A lot of fun for fans of the Beatles and/or classical music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mellow Yellow Cello Submarine +++, October 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cello Submarine: Beatles Classics by the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic (Audio CD)
This is a unique fine and fun presentation of some very popular Beatle songs expressed via a dozen classic cellos. It follows the actual Beatle songs more-or-less for each song and in each song. This is artistically natural as thereby the classic cello is given full range of rich expression. For each Beatle song, someone can hear the actual Beatle song more-or-less with the creative cellos dancing classically around the Beatle song -- adding cello classic developement to the Beatle melody and theme. Even tho there are a full dozen cellos in support -- it sounds almost more or less like a cello quartet at times as the cello developements are uncluttered while rich. The overall effect is very mellow cheerful cello expression of favorite Beatle songs -- wonderfully flowing and relaxing -- great to listen to directly or as gentle sweet background for mellow times such as studying, resting or sleeping. Mellow Yellow Cello Submarine +++

I love this cd. I bought it to use at my wedding since the Beatles are so important to me. I only wish they would have included "In My Life" on the album, but the version of "Something" is wonderful. I would highly reccomend this cd if you love string music or the Beatles or both!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEATLES IN CLASSICS, April 30, 2004
This review is from: Cello Submarine: Beatles Classics by the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic (Audio CD)
This is the title of a CD I have by the 12 Cellists Of The Berlin Philharmonic.Obviously the same one with a different sleeve.
Yet anyone who claims to know anything about the Beatles knows that "Lennon/McCartney" was agreed on at the beginning whoever wrote the song

I love this CD for the different cello tones that it brings in. If you like the sound of celli then this is a great CD. I'm not a Beatle fanatic so any differences from the orginials don't bother me. I was looking at the Boston Pops version and Beatles Songs classic style and I felt those were very elevator music style...so I just bought a second copy of Cello Submarine...my cello playing son doesn't like to share his copy. I bought the first copy on the recommendation of his cello teacher, having never heard it five years ago and I recommend it to everyone.
