This book introduces the reader into a new area of research that explores basic cellular mechanisms by using microorganisms and their products as tools to study the cell. It provides an excellent introduction to undergrads not familiar with medical microbiology; more advanced students can skip the beginning and focus on their selected area of interest (the chapter on apoptosis is specially interesting).
