Editorial Reviews

Review

"Immunology is a hard subject. This book makes it easy! There are many drawings, and this really makes it easier to understand. Also, the authors have made a genius thing by starting the paragraphs with a bolded text giving just the information one need to get an overview. The summaries are good, giving the reader a possibility to get familiar with the chapter before reading it." Medical Student, University of Bergen, Norway

"What we know about the immune system is constantly changing and books are often lacking new details even before they are printed. Dr. Abbas, as senior editor, has made a serious attempt to incorporate this growing body of knowledge in this book. Those who already own the sixth edition might not want to invest in this update, but for those working with the 5th edition or earlier, this may be a good time to upgrade.

Although it is intended for a basic immunology course for medical students, graduate students and dental students could easily make good use of it.

As always Dr. Abbas and his coeditors have provided an excellent source of information about the immune system. The book is readable and the figures illustrate concepts very nicely." - Marion C. Cohen, PhD(University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-NJMS), Doody's Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Classical text in molecular immunology, July 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cellular and Molecular Immunology, Updated Edition: With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access, 6e (Abbas, Cellular and Molecular Immunology) (Paperback)
I am familiar with this textbook since the 3rd edition. I consider this textbook one of the leading (if not the best) for the field of molecular immunology. The organization and structure of chapters differs from those in, for example, Janeway's Immunobiology, but this falls into personal preference and needs. This book is food for undergraduates, graduates and professionals who want to learn immunology from more biological and less clinical perspective. I work in cancer research, however I use this book frequently - it is very useful to get info related to different aspects of cancer research: immunotherapy, immunobiology of tumors, tumor microenvironment, etc. In addition, this textbook is one of the most affordable books. After bying the book, one can use the book's website, where it is possible, for example, to download images, which is very practical for presentations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A most readable and yet comprehensive book, February 21, 2010
This review is from: Cellular and Molecular Immunology, Updated Edition: With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access, 6e (Abbas, Cellular and Molecular Immunology) (Paperback)
This text is appropriate both for the novice and for the reader who is educated in the field but wants an update. The writing flows beautifully. The authors do an excellent job of identifying the most fundamental concepts and organizing the text around those basic concepts, yet there is a remarkable amount of detail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good text book, January 17, 2010

This review is from: Cellular and Molecular Immunology, Updated Edition: With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access, 6e (Abbas, Cellular and Molecular Immunology) (Paperback)
Has the plusses and minuses you'd expect from an immunology text. Covers the field, well indexed, illustrations are consistent and helpful. But Immunology is too big for a textbook to double as a handbook. The present edition is noticeably drier than the previous one because examples and sidelights have been reduced to fit the new material into a constant number of pages.
